On March 31, 2016, 32 year-old Brian Fields went live on Facebook to talk to his friends and followers but little did he know that he would be recording?a murder attempt on his life!

Now, video of what could have been the Chicago man’s last day on social media has gone viral after being shared thousands of times on various platforms and authorities are also reviewing it in an attempt to identify the assailant.

Authorities?say 31-year-old Brian Fields was standing in the 5600-block of S. Hoyne in Chicago when someone walked up and fired shots, then jumped into a vehicle and sped away.

According to his friends, around 5 p.m. Thursday, Fields, better known as ‘Sugar Ray,’ had just returned back in town and began live streaming video to Facebook while in his old West Englewood neighborhood.

Fields (a documented gang member)?spoke during the broadcasting about the store behind him reopening after being closed?and as?he was recording, someone began?firing his direction.

“I heard shots, about nine or 10 shots, then the fellow fell down,” said a witness.

Fields’?cell phone continued?streaming the video as it faced upwards, and you can see the gunman step into frame STILL SHOOTING before?running off.

There?s a moment of silence, then you hear a man saying, ?C?mon lord. C?mon. We got to take you to the hospital. Lord? what the f***??

The victim?s mother is also heard in the background screaming, ?Oh my God, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. ? Oh my God, I don?t believe this. I don?t believe this.?

Friends of the victim and several people who live along the street where the incident occurred, watched the video intently for clues.

“It looks like someone snuck up from behind him,” said his friend Manuel Stewart.

“See, he looked that way, look,” said neighbor Lavito Robertson.

“I watched this video at least, like, 20 times,” Robertson said. “I ain’t never seen nothing like that before. I had just keep watching, and watching, and watching it.”

Fields suffered gunshot wounds to the face and groin, and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. He remained hospitalized Friday.

Chicago police are now working to verify the authenticity of the video, as well as examining it to identify faces to find witnesses and suspects.
