OMG!!! Atlanta’s Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles Flunks Health Inspection…

Welp… there’s at least one less restaurant I’ve got on my list in Atlanta and Gladys Knight?s Signature Chicken and Waffles on Peachtree Street is one of em!

The well-known soul food restaurant attracts a lot of tourists because of it’s popular name and location and customers have been known to wait for hours to get a table at the busy eatery.

The wait will probably be a whole lot shorter when news gets out that they failed their health inspection earlier this month.

Sadly, the popular dining spot, which bears the name iconic singing legend Gladys Knight, accumulated at least 15 violations during the inspection and only got a score of 56!

Details below…

According to WSBTV, the restaurant?s violations included the following:

…a reach-in cooler missing a door, some food inside was out of temperature, observed heavy debris on the can opener, heavy debris on ceilings and vents and the required Serve Safe certificated had expired.

Channel 2?s Carol Sbarge went to the restaurant to ask about what is being done to address the violations in the failing inspection, but she was asked to leave.

She did, however, note that the restaurant had it’s low score posted, as they are required to do, but despite being warned, many waiting in line still decided to take their chances.

Tomeka Thomas is regular customer who often drives from Alabama to Atlanta just to eat there and when interviewed by WSB, she was stunned to learn the restaurant failed its latest health inspection.

?No, a 56? Eighty-five is bad to me, but a 56? Oh, wow,? she said.

Thomas decided to still eat at the restaurant based on past meals there.

?It?s been very good, very good,? she said.

For the record, prior to getting this extremely low score, Gladys Knight’s Signature Chicken and Waffles received a 94 (which is an ‘A’).? That inspection was in April, 2015.

According to Fulton County’s Restaurant Inspection division:

When an imminent health hazard is found to exist during an inspection, corrective actions for food service establishments shall be initiated as ordered by the Department, and shall include immediate cessation of operation until the establishment is under compliance. Failure to comply with the corrective action plan and immediate cessation of operation shall subject the food service establishment to immediate closure by the Department pursuant to OCGA ? 31-5-9.

The restaurant will have a chance to correct the issues prior to a re-inspection.? Hopefully, they’ll study the list and pass next time.
