Martin Luther King Day means different things to different people and while some consider it a ‘day-off’ many take the national holiday as a ‘day-on’ and pay homage to the late, great civic leader by spreading his message of peace through service.
That being said… while several ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta‘ cast members chose to pop bottles up in the club, Attorney Phaedra Parks and legendary actress Kim Fields chose to spend their time in Miami for a peaceful ‘do-over’ with Florida Representative Frederica Wilson.
Fields caught a bit of flack after last week’s episode where she chose to excuse herself from a meeting with the Representative, stating that the subject matter was ‘too adult’ for her 8 year old son.

Fields made up for the situation as she and her family joined Phaedra in visiting the congresswoman in her home state of Florida. The ladies also attended Rep. Wilson’s 5000 Role Models of Excellence Event alongside keynote speaker Omari Hardwick (Power).

The reality stars attended also the 23rd Annual MLK Scholarship Breakfast at Jungle Island.The scholarship program was organized by Congresswoman Wilson and money raised from the fundraiser will help 81 scholars with the costs of higher education.

The event, drew over 500 students and community leaders to raise funds for college scholarships for the graduating seniors.
Founded in 1993 by former Miami-Dade School Board member Frederica Wilson, the drop-out prevention program for at-risk minority youth serves 8,000 students ages 9-19 in Miami-Dade Schools, and has opened chapters in Pinellas and Duval counties. Students meet weekly with their mentors ?from CEOs and college presidents to lawyers and firefighters ? attend symposiums, visit college campuses and engage in community service.
Over 95 percent of the program’s participants graduate from high school and move on to higher education.
