Empire‘s 2nd season is on and poppin’ but many viewers have totally tuned out on the popular FoxTV series.

The 3rd episode of Empire also dropped in the ratings, which seems to be evidence of a downward slope in viewership. Wednesday night?s episode drew 12 million viewers, a decrease of 1 million viewers from the previous week?s episode and down 4 million viewers from Empire?s season 2 premiere.

According to Variety, Empire still holds the ‘Lyon’s’ share of Wednesday night viewers (see what I did there), but the ratings have been steadily declining from week to week.
?Empire? averaged a 5.0 rating/15 share in adults 18-49 and 13.0 million viewers overall in the 9 o?clock hour, down 9% (0.5) from last week?s second episode of the season, though that should be trimmed to 0.4 in the nationals. It drew more young adults than the night?s next two highest-rated shows on the competition combined (ABC?s ?Modern Family? and ?The Goldbergs?). During its first season last winter, ?Empire?s? third episode did a 4.4/13 in 18-49 and 11.07 million total viewers.
One of the commenters (Patricia) said it best a few days ago:
The problem is the story line dropped off. When they left off, the main character was thrown in jail.
When they pick back up ? CRICKETS!! We don?t know what transpired to get him there?! They fast forwarded thru all the action. What about Vernon? That needs to be answered now, if Vernon is the one that turned on Lucs?.
Andre is the person that off?ed Vernon, what about that?
To much of the story line has been dropped and we are supposed to answer those questions ourselves? Wait for the answers? etc.?
Screw that. People lost interest b/c the writing ? thus far ? sucks.
I don’t know about you, but Empire is turning into one bad joke after another. I know it’s all entertainment, but I just can’t take this show seriously. The best part about the episode last night was the preview trailer for next week… oh… and the memes!
