Tyra Banks Gets Emotional About Fertility Issues & Societal Pressures To Marry… [VIDEO]

For many career women, it?s often a struggle to balance family life with their career goals.

Unlike our male counterparts, success for women isn?t only measured by our business acumen, but also by who and when we marry and/or have kids.

For supermodel Tyra Banks, the sting of that double standard has weighed heavy on her heart in ways her fans had never known until she opened up about her fertility issues recently.

In a clip from an upcoming episode of ‘FABLife,’ Banks and co-host Crissy Teigen speak candidly about the societal pressures to marry and conceive. Banks even got an bit emotional when speaking of the topic, stating:

?I just feel like we?re so hard on each other and so judgmental of each other and a woman that is divorced three times is more normal than a woman that has not been married.

I am so tired of seeing on my social media, ?Why don?t you have kids? Why don?t you have kids?? You don?t know. You don?t know what I?m going through,? Banks said as the tears began to flow.

Isn’t it sad how it’s more acceptable in today’s society to be a ‘baby mama’ than to be a woman over 40 with no kids?? *sigh*

VIDEO: Starting a Family | Tyra Banks and Chrissy Teigen
In the preview clip above of an upcoming episode of Banks? ?FABLife? talk show, both Tyra and co-host and fellow model Chrissy Teigen opened up about the harmful pressures they feel from the world to marry and have children.

Teigen spoke of her issues conceiving a child with her husband of two years, John Legend, stating:

?I will say, honestly, John and I are having trouble.?

?We would have kids five, six years ago if it?d happened. But my gosh, it?s been a process!?

Teigen continued, ?So, anytime somebody asks me if I?m going to have kids, I?m like, ?One day, you?re going to ask that to the wrong girl who?s really struggling, and it?s going to be really hurtful to them.? And I hate that. So, I hate it. Stop asking me!?

To the surprise of the audience, and seemingly the hosts, Teigen?s words struck a sensitive nerve with Banks and she let loose a flood of emotions as she opened up for the first time publicly about her struggle to have kids.

?When I was 23 years old, I used to tell myself, ?In three years I?m gonna have kids.? Then I turned 24. ?In three years I?m gonna have kids.? And then just every single year I kept saying that. And then, after a while it?s like, OK, now I want to ? and it?s not so easy,? she added before choking up on camera.

Banks and Teigen’s candid discussion about their fertility issues is one that is shared by many women.

Sadly, it’s more acceptable to be a ‘baby mama’ these days than it is to be a single woman over a certain age with no kids. So many career women are left to harbor the guilt of putting off the choice to have kids during their ‘prime.’

A friend posed the following question to me the other day: Who is winning? A single woman who travels the world but wishes she had a husband and kids? or a married woman with kids who wishes she could travel the world?? The answer is subjective but it seems that most are intrigued about the life they don’t have.

I believe that things happen when and ‘if’ they’re supposed to happen… and in a ‘perfect world,’ women wouldn’t be pressured to validate themselves based on their relationship status.? But it’s not.

In the meantime, the best solution is to seek what your heart desires… if it’s a relationship, go for it. If it’s a child, do that too.? If it’s neither, then drink margaritas.? (Look. I made a rhyme!)

Are single career women with no kids looked down upon in society?
