In news you won’t see everyday… a Black Atlanta man held a White carjacking suspect at gunpoint until police arrived (and lived to tell the tale).
An Atlanta man held a would-be carjacker at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested the suspect, according to police.
Hashim Fannin, the car owner, says the attempted carjacking occurred just after he had pulled into a parking spot at a Family Dollar in northwest Atlanta earlier this month. The man slipped into the passenger seat when the car’s doors automatically unlocked.
?He told me, ?You know what this is,?? Fannin said. That’s when the flip was switched on the would-be carjacker!
Fannin was armed and held the perpetrator at gunpoint until police arrived. Witnesses caught the incident all on tape!
More details + watch video of the bizarre incident below…
According to WSB-TV, Fannin kept the suspect, Edgar Horn, 61, at gunpoint face down in the parking lot for several minutes until police arrived.
?I asked him to get out the car, probably not in those exact words,? Fannin said.
?I told him, ‘No, there?s no leaving, leaving was before you hopped into my car … at this point there is no leaving,’? Fannin said.
On a cellphone video of the incident, Fannin can be heard saying, ?Do you just get into random people’s cars … you thought I was your friend ?? you thought I was your friend … so you woke up stupid this morning??
Upon arrival, the police officer shakes Fannin’s hand before putting the suspect in handcuffs.
?Honestly, I look at it like this: That is one less guy I got to worry about bothering my mom when she?s out grocery shopping,? Fannin said.
Police arrived and Fannin quickly dropped his weapon. Officer’s even shook his hand as they approached.
[Sidebar: While we all know this situation could have ended quite differently, it’s great to see that the planets were aligned and things happened as they should.]
Major props to the officers who handled the call. The suspect was arrested for attempted robbery and entering an automobile.
