The super duo is using the power of the internet to raise funds to make music and are asking supporters to donate to the cause:

“We’ve always been known to do things differently,” T-Boz said.

“We’ve always been trailblazers and trendsetters. We’ve always been outspoken, and this seems like the perfect opportunity.”

Details below…

The iconic group needs your help and has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for their fifth and final album. The campaign started yesterday (January 19, 2015) and the group has already received a third of what their seeking, raising over $50,000 in less than 24 hours.

According to Time, ?the two remaining members stressed that the decision to do a fifth album was brought about solely due to popular demand but since they aren’t signed to a label, they need financial assistance to give the fans what they want.

T-Boz and Chilli say they have already begun writing their fifth album and expect it to be released in May 2015. The group is hoping they can raise $150,000 through their online campaign, so they can fund the recording process.

“People may say, ‘Hey, you are celebrities. Why can’t you just pay for it yourself?'” Chilli said.

“But it doesn’t work that way. There’s a lot that goes into it. We want to bring our fans into the process and see how it’s done.”

You can give a little or you can give a lot.

Donations start at $5, and fans will receive an exclusive digital track for their generosity. ?They will also be able to communicate with TLC during the recording process.

If you choose to donate even more money, you will receive VIP concert tickets, a recorded custom voicemail by the group, an in-person fitness class taught by Chilli and clothes worn by them from their music videos.

VIDEO: TLC’s KickStarter Campaign

According the TLC’s Kickstarter page:

Every penny we raise during this campaign will go towards MAKING this final album together with you!

The initial goal of $150,000 will go towards a writing session in the studio with a producer and engineer.

The money beyond that will go to booking music producers, writing sessions, mixing sessions, recording sessions, and SO much more.

I wish them the best… but I have a question. Are all these WeFund/Kickstarter/GoFundMe charity campaigns the new ‘come up’ for 2015? I swear I get a request every other day for donations. But I digress.
