An Ode To ‘Old School’ Valentine’s Day… [PHOTOS]

In the age of social media, is Valentine’s Day getting a bad rap?

Social media was created to bring people together, but it seems that the use of non-verbal communication has created a world where texting or chatting online is the norm, while calling is used only to clear up what was said in a text.

People ‘instagram’ their feelings and ‘subtweet’ their loved ones these days to get their point across, and instead of arguing face to face, they do it online for an audience.

While many have attempted to explain the millennial generation’s total disregard of traditional courtship rules, there are some of us still out there (and yes, I consider myself a traditionalist).

With that being said, check out a few Valentine’s Day cards created just for the new age dating pool and compare them with the V-Day cards from yesteryear…

I guess many ‘B*tches’ out there would be flattered to win in this category…

‘That’s that sh*t I DON’T like, but YOU that sh*t I DO like.’ Ummmkay…

“I love you like Kanye loves Kanye”

Since we all know Kanye loves himself a whole lot, THIS one might get you some. 😆

The hilarious cards above are all via AllyElleCards.? Yeah… they’re funny and all, but whatever happened to cute cards like…

?Yeah… they may be corny, but they’re way better than my boo calling me a ‘b*tch’ any day of the week.

‘Olivia Pope’ and/or ‘Mary Jane’ are sadly becoming the idols of many up and coming young women, so it’s no wonder that relationships aren’t respected by the masses. Why should it be? It’s easier to be number #2 than number #1 any day of the week, right?

And speaking of today’s relationships, nowadays society regards marriage as merely means towards a tax break. No longer is it required to be a ‘wife’ before becoming a ‘mother,’ in fact, it’s the norm not to.

But I digress… (Hops off soapbox)

Today, instead of sending a group V-Day text… try calling and leaving a message.? Instead of sending an electronic e-card to your BFF at work, write a note and tape it to his/her monitor.

I know it’s hard. It’s way too easy to just press ‘send’ but maybe… just maybe we all should think outside of this lil electronic box for at least one day out of the year.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Do you miss they way it used to be???
