Celebrity Hairstylist Derek J Responds To Rumors He’s UNLICENSED… *DOCUMENTS*

Earlier today a huge batch of TEA about Atlanta hairstylists Lawrence Washington (right) and Derek J (left) was spilled online.

It’s been rumored for years that the two celebrity stylists have been working on heads without the proper state credentials but apparently some salty hairstylist has decided to dig it all up again.

Explosive details + Derek J’s response below…

Celebrity blogger Sandra Rose recently got word that the two celebrity stylists have been working on heads without the proper credentials.

According to my reader who asked to remain anonymous, neither Derek J nor Lawrence are licensed to practice cosmetology in the state of Georgia. In fact, Lawrence?s cosmetology license was suspended last year after he applied for a license reinstatement ? and the board leaned that he had been styling hair in Georgia for years on an expired license.

The board suspended Lawrence?s license for 2 years in accordance with a consent agreement that Lawrence signed last year. That means he cannot style hair in Georgia until his suspension is lifted in 2013.

On the other hand, Derek J has never held a cosmetology license to practice in Georgia. Derek does have a valid license in another state, which is not valid here in Georgia. (READ MORE)

I asked Derek about the rumors a while back and he confirmed that he is indeed licensed in another state.

He also told me that he considers himself a “traveling stylist” due to the fact that he is often booked to travel around the world with his celebrity clientele. That being said, if Derek was forced to be licensed in every state he did hair, he’d probably be training for decades.

While there is some truth to the story of him not being licensed (in the State of Georgia), Derek grew tired of the insinuations surrounding his craft and proceeded to get the Georgia licensing issue resolved months ago.

After the story was posted, Derek issued the following response via Twitter, along with a screen shot of his application, which has been sitting for months.

Lawrence on the other hand… who fell out of former “housewife” Sheree Whitfield’s good graces after her hair began to thin and shed under his care, has yet to respond.

However it’s true that he’s apparently barred from doing hair in the state of Georgia until March 31, 2014.

During the RHOA special that aired last night, Lawrence was asked about all the talk about he and Sheree falling out and his “politically correct” answer was that he was still Sheree’s friend even if she wasn’t his, so I’m assuming that all the shade thrown on and off the show toward’s his former client was all just for fun.

Hopefully this clears up all the rumors and innuendo about these celebrity stylists… maybe… maybe not. All I know is… I ain’t giving up Derek J for NONAYALL!

Would you still trust these two “unlicensed” master stylists with your tresses?
