The classic film about three teenagers from Harlem who set their sights on making musical history in Motown has been brought back to life and it’s remake will be significant in more ways than one.
a.) Sparkle is Whitney Houston‘s last film. The actress/singer passed away only three months after production ended on the Salim Akil-directed project.
b.) Sparkle marks the acting debut of American Idol Jordin Sparks.
Houston and Sparks star in the film alongside Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Tamela Mann and Omari Hardwick.

Houston plays “Emma,”??the mother of the set of sisters who are struggling to break into the music business. Whitney displays an air of regal perfection in each scene and her clothing reflects that she is holds the key to the family wisdom.
Comedian Mike Epps is cast as?’Satin Struthers’ in?Sparkle?and his character’s style embodies that of a smooth con man.??In the original film the character was a street thug who beats on one of the main characters and gets her hooked on drugs. While it’s not a role Epps has taken on in the past, he will face?his demons and beat them when Sparkle hits the big screen August 17.

These three star as the teen sisters who form a girl group and try to make it big in Motown. Unfortunately, the road to stardom is full of its challenges and the sisters have to make sure their family is not sacrificed for fame.
The girls portray a trio who are styled to perfection from glamorous gowns to trendy mini’s!
Derek Luke stars as “Stix”, a music manager and the love interest of Sparkle (Sparks). His style reflects the trendy look of the 60’s with sharp straight leg suits paired with hats and accessorized by pretty ladies.
Jordin Sparks works the 60’s color blocking with perfection! Sparks has come a long way since she won American Idol in 2006. ?Sparkle marks her feature film debut and fans are anxious to see how she?ll manage to role inspired by Diana Ross (as part of the Supremes).
Omari Hardwick stars in the movie as “Levi”, who sings with the three sisters in their church?s choir. Levi possesses a clean urban style. Rocking a turtleneck and blazer, which are definitely staple pieces of urban cool during that time.
