Many were outrage over the photo and it (along with it’s location) was sent to several news outlets.? It was determined by it’s geo-tag that it was taken around the Mayfield Heights area of Cleveland, Ohio.
Bryson W. Thornton, Global Communications Director, writes:
We are aware of the photo that was allegedly posted by an employee at a Burger King restaurant in Ohio and are taking the issue very seriously.
Food safety is a top priority for Burger King restaurants and the company has strict policies regarding its food handling procedures.
We are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action as necessary.
Thornton eventually confirmed that the photo was indeed taken at a Burger King location, although he clarified that it happens to be an “independently owned and operated by a Burger King franchisee.”
“The franchisee has taken swift action to investigate this matter and terminated the three employees involved in the incident.” (source)
