I’ve been a fan of Musiq Soulchild for so dayum long that I can even tell you what I was doing when I first heard his hit “Just Friends” from his first album Aijuswanaseing…. but that’s personal so I won’t go there.
I had the pleasure of dining with Musiq (real name Taalib Johnson) yesterday at Maggiano’s in Buckhead as we broke bread together in the private dining area (along with 29 other invited guests).
Musiq discussed the details of his sixth album MusiqintheMagiq and played the video for the album’s single “Anything” feat Swizz Beatz (click HERE if you haven’t seen it.).
Musiq explained the song’s meaning:
“‘Anything’ is really about jealousy and insecurity. In relationships, it’s not wise to automatically assume that whenever you feel suspicious about someone, that something negative is going on.
If a man is saying and showing that he loves you, then give him some credit and have a little faith.”
Ok… great advice!
Musiq and I sat down for a lil one on one time, where he shared details regarding his decision to make Atlanta his home. He also gave more words of wisdom to new artists who travel here in hopes of shining in the “A” aka “Black Hollywood”.
More below:
In the 2nd video below, Musiq discusses his decision to move from Philly to Atlanta and talks about how Atlanta is always ragged on because of our music style… or as he called it, the “Atlanta” sound.
[Sidebar:? When I was seeking questions yesterday, someone tweeted, “Ask him why all his songs sound the same.”
You’ll be pleased to note that that was one of the first things we discussed and Musiq even said that he’s open to change. So much so that you shouldn’t be surprised to hear him on a Waka Flocka and or Gucci Track!]
VIDEO: One on One with Musiq (Part2)
Musiq has been in this game a loooong time and has a wealth of information. His new project has quite a full dance tracks and while I’m not sure if changing what works is a good or bad thing, I’m sure his talent will speak for itself.
We’ll just have to wait and listen….
Musiq’s “MusiqintheMagiq” hits shelves May 3rd.
Props to Joi Pearson for the photos and major shouts out to Saptosa (135th St Agency) for the invite!
