Former NBA player Lorenzen Wright hasn’t been seen by family members in over a week and now they say they suspect foul play in his disappearance.
Wright’s family filed a missing persons report with Collierville, Tennessee police Thursday, after his mother flagged down a police car.
According to? police, Wright flew to Atlanta to his house in Smyrna, and a friend then picked him up to drive him to his ex-wife’s home in Tennessee. “He went to check on his kids,” Lt. Norm Dixon of the Collierville police said.
Wright apparently left his wife’s residence at 2 a.m. while she was asleep. Police assume he was picked up by someone, but his ex-wife said she has no idea who he could have left with. Dixon described the ex-wife’s neighborhood as “very safe and affluent.
Police say they do not suspect foul play. “There’s just no information to make us draw that conclusion,” Dixon said.
Wright’s family, however, say this is all unusual and they are concerned for his safety. Wright’s mother, Deborah Marion, says Wright’s six kids are taking the disappearance really hard, especially his 13-year old daughter, who she says would normally talk to her father everyday.
“The 13-year old is taking it worse than anybody. He always calls her and he always answers her calls and she doesn’t understand why he’s not calling, why he isn’t answering her calls.”
The family confirms Wright, who in addition to the Atlanta Hawks, played for the University of Memphis, the Memphis Grizzlies, and most recently the Cleveland Cavaliers, has been having financial problems.
Wright recently had two homes, one in Memphis and one in Atlanta, foreclosed on but as far as his whereabouts… “there is nothing on his phone records, no bank transactions, his vehicles are still at his house in Smyrna,” Dixon said. “It’s like he literally dropped off the face of the earth.”
