Weeks After Sprite Step-Off Tempers Still Flare As Racial Issues Surface [VIDEO]

After posting my video coverage of the Sprite Step-Off competition a few weeks ago, I had no idea that the video I uploaded of the crowd boo’ing would create such attention.

The Zeta’s winning may be a historic milestone for stepping, but apparently racial issues concerning the hoopla has created controversy surrounding the show.

The YouTube video of the crowd boo’ing now has over 1,000 racially charged comments:

they are just pissed off cause the white girls kicked their ass.Lets have a white history month and a white only awards show and? see how they really would act then! The blacks hate whites so much but they forget a WHITE man free their ass ~pwee16

It is over, they said AKA really won it anyway, scoring errors ? caused the problems not color of skin. Scoring errors happed in Jan 2010. and Sprite fixed it again, people did not scream race when it happened, WHY because it was between two black sororites (ZPB and SGRHO)! ~ fshchan

Wow…can you imagine if a black team won a white competition in today’s? world and white people overwhemingly booed them? It would be all over CNN. Those people that booed should be ashamed and should never complain about racism. ~ lemonhead2121

You have affirmative action, BET, black colleges, NAACP, black scolarships, more punishment for hate crimes, and a black president and yet you STILL want more? The only reason blacks pull the race card as much as they do is to excuse their laziness and lack of intelligence. Cant win? Pull the race card? Cant get a job? Affirmative action. Dont want to go to jail? Call it racism. Yeah, its whitey’s fault you guys are lazy and stupid.? Make us come down to your level rather than rise to ours. Punks ~ method05

Woooow! I mean…really? It was only a dayum step show. At least that’s what I thought.? Turns out that news outlets across the country have picked up on the fact that Sprite backtracked on awarding the all-white sorority Zeta Tau Alpha the win after admitting a “scoring discrepancy” that never actually materialized:

Video ~ Controversy in Race over Step Competition

No one has seen the scoring sheets and Sprite’s final say-so on the matter was to award the 2nd place winners, Alpha Kappa Alpha, as co-winners in the competition.? I’ve heard through the grapevine that at least 2 of the judges actually voted for the AKA’s to win the competion and that the judges are upset over the whole situation as well.

From the outside looking in, it would appear that Sprite is trying to increase the peace by awarding both sororities the winner and giving the $100,000 prize money, however, that’s not the case at all.

I’ve heard that the conspiracy theory is that the Zeta’s road to the show was all taped for a planned documentary that was aimed at showcasing them as the first all-White sorority to break into the historically Black tradition.

I also heard that proclaiming them as the winner was great footage for the documentary even though the AKA’s won on paper. We’ll probably never know what the TRUE story is behind all the hoopla, but at the end of the day, people are still talking about Sprite and the Step-Off…so I’m assuming it’s a win-win situation for all involved.
