Last night’s episode of Intervention was one that should hit home with just about anyone in the entertainment industry.? Robby Pardlo from the R&B group ?City High? was featured on the episode and it was an epic view of what happens when the checks stop and you’re no longer onstage.
In case you need a refresher about the group, CLICK HERE to view “What Would You Do”, which is still a favorite of mine today. The group consisted of Robby, his friend Ryan Toby and his girlfriend Claudette Ortiz.? They were signed to Wyclef Jeans label and did positive music with messages.
The three members apparently parted ways after Claudette dissed Robby for fellow member Ryan Toby. She and Ryan married on October 14, 2004 and I’ve read that Ryan became an actor, but Robby never recovered from the heartbreak of losing his girl and his group.
Moving home and settling into a life of normalcy was difficult after having seen the limelight and Robby dived into a sea of depression, self-medicating with alcohol.? Robby’s mom, a huge supporter in his dream of becoming a singer, states in the video, “I gave the music industry a cub scout…and they gave me back a drunk.”
Family and friends of Robby reached out to the A&E show intervention to get him some help with his addiction to alcohol.? It was really hard to watch. The good thing is…that so far there’s been a happy ending.
Oh…BTW Robby’s my twitter friend.? Follow him at LyricsDad to show your support.
