With so much positivity going on in 2010, it’s sad to see some people still stuck on stupid. Recently, a doll bearing the likeness of Barack Obama was found hanging outside of a Georgia store located in the hometown of former President Jimmy Carter:

A doll symbolizing the 44th President of the United States was found hanging from a noose in Plains, Georgia. The Secret Service is investigating the case after the large Black doll was found hanging above of a large sign that reads:
?Plains, Georgia. Home of our 39th President Jimmy Carter.?
Local television news showed what appeared to be a black doll at the end of a noose on the main road in Plains, home of Jimmy Carter, the former Democratic president, Georgia governor and Nobel peace prize winner.Witnesses said the doll bore a sign with Obama’s name. The effigy was quickly removed by the fire department after it was discovered on Saturday.
The tiny town of Plains, 120 miles south of Atlanta, is proud of its connection to Carter, president from 1977 to 1981, and residents said they hoped news of the effigy would not overshadow the link. Georgia was long a hotbed of racial animosity and when Carter was inaugurated governor in 1971 he declared: “The time for racial discrimination is over.”
In October 2008 two students in Kentucky hung an effigy of Obama in what they called a Halloween prank. They were arrested, but charges were later dropped. (Source)
Not surprising but sad nonetheless. Georgia is a hotbed of racist activity concerning President Obama, if you recall, it wasn’t that long ago that a bar owner right around the corner in Marietta was proudly selling those racists t-shirts bearing the image of a monkey with the words “Obama 08”.?? We’ve got a long way to go.
