Tyler Perry has donated a cool milli to the NAACP to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the civil rights organization. In a press release issued early yesterday, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said the gift is the largest donation from an individual in the organization’s history. Perry has pledged to distribute the cash to the organization over a four year period, which? will support advocacy programs on economic equality education, health care and criminal justice.
“I feel so honored and blessed to be in a position where I can give,” said Perry. “Had it not been for the perseverance and vision of the thousands who came before me in the 100 years of this legendary organization, I would not be in the position I am in today.”
In light of Tyler’s recent criticism by Spike Lee and other industry vets regarding his Madea franchise being a detriment to the Black community, as well as the current debate about the movie “Precious” and it’s stereotypical images of Black America, this gift appears to be an attempt to increase the peace.? Hush Money perhaps? I know I’m gonna catch flack for this but if I don’t say it who will?
