Former Falcons QB Michael Vick, who has been under house arrest since his release from federal prison has left his job with a Virginia construction company to work with youngsters at Boys & Girls Clubs. Vick will now be working with children on health and fitness activities at several clubs in the Hampton Roads area. The embattled quarterback was a regular at the Boys & Girls Club in Newport News as a youngster and officials feel that he can have an impact on wayward youths:
?We were disappointed by some of his recent actions and decisions but believe he has learned from these experiences and is now conscious of his obligations and responsibilities as a prominent sports figure that impacts and influences our kids,? Steven Kast, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula explains in a written statement.
I’m so happy for him! Shoot…who wouldn’t jump at the chance to turn in a hardhat for some cool a/c? On the real, I think Vick could do a world of good speaking to youngsters about his situation. Good for him! Mike needed a job to meet the conditions of his probation and had been working as a $10-an-hour laborer at the construction company. No word on how much or even IF he’s going to get paid by the Boys & Girls Clubs but it doesn’t matter anyway, since he still has a few assets to live on.
Documents reveal that Vick, whose lawyers were in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk on Tuesday, has a second home that is under construction and could net up to $2 million when sold. Also, according to the Associated Press, he has “two bass boats and three larger fishing boats” which he has agreed to sell.
