Blogger Blasted in Presidential Hoax

This sh*t has more twists and turns in it than my curly wig! ?Here’s the story, website owner, Tina Brown, contacted someone she THOUGHT was Jay McCarroll, Project Runway’s first season winner, via email asking him to contribute sketches of a proposed?inaugural?gown for Michelle Obama. ?Brown received several sketches, one of which portrayed the first lady in a headscarf and what appeared to be a red, white & blue burlap sac dress. ?Now…instead of immediately tossing the item as a joke, Brown posts the dress on her site and praised the designer, who happened to be Jay McCarrol <—(with one “l”), a musician whose name is often confused with the Project Runway?fashionista. ?Carrol (with one “l”) said he was just “f*cking around” when he decided to take her up on her offer to design an inaugural gown and enlisted the help of a friend to construct the nonsense pictured below as a joke: ?

“Awesome, thanks so much Jay! I love it,” she wrote on October 8. The Daily Beast described the burlap-accented gown as a “cocktail-length frock with a surprising amount of sex appeal for a sack-based garment.” Commenting on the sketch, Simon Doonan, the Barneys creative director, said, “Jay McCarroll–he himself–would make a fabulous first lady. He would totally do justice to the candy-cane legs and platforms.”

Along with the sketch, McCarrol included an artist statement, from which The Daily Beast quoted in its story: “From concept to cut this dress is symbolic of the new found responsibilities we as Americans have attained in light of our country’s economic crisis. The idea is simple, we as Americans need to live within our means, get back to basics, and rebuild a solid foundation to live upon.”

I don’t know whether to be upset at the dude for thinking this joke was funny or pi*sed at the chick who praised and posted this BS. The post had been up since November 6th but was yanked after the site owner was notified of the hoax. ?It was McCarrol (with one “l”) that notified the media of his prank.?
