This wasn’t no regular ole concert. Nope. Not at all. ATLien’s united in the rain and mud to celebrate the reunion of one our most heartfelt groups. Khujo, T-Mo, Big Gipp & Cee-Lo. Collectively known as The Goodie Mob. The venue was outside and the weather was rainy but I, personally, was in heaven from the moment the show started. DJ Jelly was on the ones and twos providing Atlanta classic jams during each intermission while DJ Kizzy Rock, Pastor Troy & The Youngbloodz all performed as we celebrated our A-town musical history. These weren’t just no regular ole opening acts either. Each one has a history about as colorful as the Goodie Mob and each shared in the historical value of the event.

The most highly anticipated concerts of the year lived up to its expectations when at 9:42pm the legendary group Goodie Mob hit the stage despite the rain that had already started. When group members Cee-Lo, Khujo, Big Gipp and T-Mo hit the stage last night, the crowd went into a frenzy in anticipation of them performing some of their
biggest hits to date. Peep video and photos below: (more…)
Yet again, I’ve creeped over to my friend’s site and snatched up one of her good O.S.A.Ms (Old School Atlanta Memories). This week it’s the Youngbloodz. Remember them? You never really miss something until it’s gone and I realize I really miss these two together. The duo behind today’s “A” Pod classic jams “Damn” and “U-Way” have gone their separate ways, but are still quite active in the industry. And in honor of Flashback Friday, take a moment to reflect with my friend as she shares what she learned while working on the set with Youngbloodz and the attic crew:
It may not be headlines like when Jay Z split with Irv or Snoop with Dre but one of my favorite groups in Atlanta has always been the Youngbloodz and to know that they are not a duo anymore puts me in a melancholy state of mind. Now the fan in me is MAD AS HELL, I love their swag as a rap group, I knew they were having their difficulties but damn if Dre and Big Boi can do it then why not the Youngbloodz. The picture taken above was from one of their last videos Chop Chop, I was the assistant director and it was a long cold day but somehow, I just didn’t mind because I love these guys.
Finally one day I decieded to stop being selfish for one minute and was able to realize the SECRET TO THIS ENTRY, ITS VERY SIMPLE – FOR EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON.
Now I’m gonna take you back to a night I can recall at Club 112 a few years back; it was an album release party for Ludacris, and all of Atlanta’s royalty came out to support. The VIP was an Atlien who’s who list. I was sitting down near Michael Vick and my friends were asking me if was I going to follow them back to his house.
Check out one of my many ‘A’ town favs, “85″ from Youngbloodz which features my boo Twan…I mean Big Boi and Jim Crow. [SIDEBAR: For those of you who just hit Hartsfield/Jackson International, Jim Crow consisted of Polow Da Don, Cutty Cartel and Mr. Mo.] Some people’s standard introduction to the “A” is I285 where they get caught up driving in a never ending loop…but I’m sure I85 is a close second, leading you from the far north straight to the ‘dirty’ south.
Happy Flashback Friday! Y’all ready for that weekly Atlanta history lesson? It’s coming…hold on!
Check out today’s flashback video, “Okay” ~ Nivea featuring Youngbloodz. As I was out enjoying the Atlanta sunshine today, I happened to put my “A” pod on random and this was the first song to play. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised since I was heading over to the nail shop. How appropriate! I always tell people my “A”pod knows me better than I know myself…I guess I’m right. Enjoy!
This week’s blast from the past…. “Damn” by the YoungBloodz featuring Lil Jon. This was my joint! I’m sangin’ it now…and doing my “A” town stomp! I’m taking you back to a time when wearing a Michael Vick jersey was a good thing (peep the Vick cameo)! I guess since this is game day, I’ll dedicate this to the Atlanta Falcons. “If you don’t give a Damn, we don’t give a F%ck!” I can hear them singing this song to the fans RIGHT NOW!!!
