As you know, the 90’s girl group once consisted of sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, as well as Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Harris but things changed after a bit of internal disagreements within the group.
Kandi, who has gone on to earn awards with her songwriting expertise and is now a real “housewife” of Atlanta, explained a while back that she’s NEVER revisiting her past and has pretty much said that her days with Xscape are gone.
Jermaine Dupri is gearing up for his SoSo Def 20th Anniversary concert and kicked things off with a private dinner with many of the artists that made his label great (February 21, 2013).
I’ve heard that tickets to the upcoming concert aren’t selling as fast as they would like, but the gang is still optimistic about the weekend’s festivities.
Artists such as Bow Wow and Chris Kelly of Kris Kross (who happened to have just met for the first time last night), Da Brat, Jagged Edge, LaTocha and Tamika Scott (Xscape), Dondria, Bonecrusher, Youngbloodz, Dem Franchize Boyz all broke bread in anticipation of the upcoming festivities.
Veteran music exec Michael Mauldin (JD’s father) as well as his Mom and daughter Shaniah also attended to show support.
Self-professed ‘mayor of Atlanta’ Jermaine Dupri gathered up all of his SoSo Def artists and headed to Atlanta’s city hall earlier today (January 15, 2013).
Dupri, the founder & CEO of SoSo Def, was joined by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as he held a press conference to reveal what is being billed as a huge historic event in Atlanta’s musical history.
The So So Def label was once home to platinum-selling acts such as Jermaine Dupri, Xscape, Bow Wow, Jagged Edge and Da Brat, and Dupri announced during the conference that they will celebrate 20 years of hit-making music by hosting at an All-Star Anniversary Concert on February 23rd!
I wanna thank,Jagged Edge,Da brat,Kris Kross,xscape,Bone Crusher,Dondria,for coming to the press conference
Yes… she’s still around, but every since Kandi Burruss made it quite clear that there will NEVER be an Xscape reunion (click here if you missed that), it seems the other ladies in the group can’t catch a break.
LaTocha’s still grinding though and even released a new single a while ago…
Well, the former Xscape front woman is back with a new single entitled, “Complicated,” featuring Wale.
The track is from Tocha’s forthcoming mixtape Truth N’ The Booth and the song attempts to take us back to old school R&B with the vocalist singing about how the feelings she has for her man are “Complicated.”
The song was written by Lundon & Chef Tone & produced by friend Grammy Award winning DJ Toomp (Heeeey Toompie!).
Here’s Xscape with @OGKeithSweat before we got our deal with SoSoDef.
Please don’t hold your breath waiting for that Xscape reunion though. Kandi has publicly said (on more than one occasion) that there will NEVER be an Xscape reunion because of too much bad blood between a few of it’s members.
Burruss also shared an old pic posing with Ceelo Green and T-Mo Goodie from Goodie Mob as well as a special flashback photo where she is posing with featuring the late Heavy D (RIP) and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
