The Boondocks returned to the airwaves with the first episode of their highly anticipated 4th season last night (April 21, 2014).
The original cast of characters are back including Regina King, the voice of young brothers Huey and Riley, and John Witherspoon, who plays their grandfather. You may also recognize the voice of Atlanta based rapper Killer Mike during the show and there’s even an appearance by Uncle Ruckus!
The episode, entitled, “Pretty Boy Flizzy,’ spoofs embattled R&B singer Chris Brown and his on-going legal issues and also includes a take on the now infamous beating of Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna, who they refer as ‘Christianna’ in the flick.

Similar to McGruder’s famous takes of R. Kelly’s sex trial and Tyler Perry gay rumors in two of the show’s most popular episodes (“The Trial of R. Kelly” and “Pause”), “Pretty Boy Flizzy” is meant to create controversy and conversation.

Aaron McGruder, the mastermind behind the Boondocks cartoon series is not only the creator/writer, he’s said to actually BE one of the shows most popular characters in real life.
McGruder, who’s show pushes the envelope on racial matters weekly, once made this statement about President Barack Obama:
Obama is not black because he is not a descendant of a slave. The person who is one of us in the White House is Michelle Obama and her momma. (source)
If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll quickly recognize that mentality as Uncle Ruckus, who is described on the show as “a self-hating black man, who disassociates himself from other African Americans as much as possible, and is outspoken in his support of what Huey calls the “white supremacist power structure.”
Yeah.. that about sums it up. Apparently McGruder’s similarities to Uncle Ruckus don’t stop with his political beliefs, at least that’s what one of his jump-offs is saying: Continue Reading…
I was a lil late catching up on my weekly dose of Boondocks this week but couldn’t help but hear the buzz about how Aaron McGruder ‘went in” on Tyler Perry.
Perry, who’s caught heat over the years from the likes of Spike Lee and Dr. Cornel West, now faces the hip-hop heads with McGruder’s take on his chitlin circuit gospel plays, which he describes as “…a homo-erotic christian theatre cult.”
McGruder creates a dancing “Ma Duke” character, who was definitely a parody of Madea…
In “Pause,” an episode written by McGruder, a thinly veiled version of Perry (Winston Jerome) is portrayed as a closeted, cross-dressing cult leader whose love of the Christian faith is a mask for his true sexuality. There’s definitely some classic quotes in the episode, like Riley’s take on “no-homo:”
“How I know you not homo unless you say ‘no homo’?”
And while the “Winston Jerome” character bears little physical resemblance to Perry, the reference is obvious…

Am I the only one who’s been missing the antics of Huey, Riley & Granddad? Well don’t fret…cause according to Aaron McGruder, mastermind behind the hit adult cartoon series, there will be a Season 3 coming soon. Most likely in early 2010. The TV-MA-rated satire first premiered on Adult Swim in 2005. The first season, which consisted of 15-episodes, ended on March 19, 2006. The second season premiered on October 8, 2007 and consisted of 15 episodes; however only 13 episodes were aired.
Can you believe we’ve been watching re-runs for over 2 years now? Series creator, Aaron McGruder, speaks of the show on his TWITTER and confirmed recently that the third season is currently under production and due to air in early 2010. As proof that they’re in the production stages, Aaron tweeted out a few screenshots of the new season and you may be surprised at how the characters are aging. He also gave us a bit of insight on a few new characters:
Man… if y’all thought Ruckus was mean, what til you see his father and grandmother! Season 3 is coming, just can’t say when. Patience!
