Check out three photos of former Chicago baseball player Sammy Sosa throughout the years. The first photo is Sammy as a rookie and the one on the far right is Sammy now. Do you notice a difference? Well apparently in the aftermath of all that steroids controversy, Sammy’s not quite comfortable in his own skin. According to a close friend of Sosa’s this is just a freak reaction to a process we women go through all the time…

He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin,” [Rebecca] Polihronis said. “Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.

“He is in the middle of doing a cleansing process to his skin. The picture is deceiving. He said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.’”

Sosa has also added his own explanation as to why his skin appears so much lighter in the recent photograph. In an interview with Spanish speaking Univision reporter Tony Dandrades Tuesday on the program “Primer Impacto,” Sosa answered questions about how and why he desired to change his appearance. He was also asked if Michael Jackson was the inspiration for his new look: (more…)

The show, entitled The Michael Vick Project, will trail the football player on his controversial comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles while also examining his troubled childhood and legal troubles stemming from his infamous 2007 arrest for running a dog fighting ring.

On the new docu-series, Vick explains:

“I just want people to really get to know me as an individual. What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.”

I’m happy for him and will definitely be supporting his endeavors. The show is set to premiere in early 2010 and the Vick haters are already busy. Check out what PETA has to say below: (more…)

Meet Plaxico Burress. The former New York Giants receiver posed this week for the below New York State Department of Correctional Services mug shot after he began serving a two-year prison sentence. Burress, 32, pleaded guilty last month to felony charges stemming from an accidental shooting last year at a Manhattan nightclub.

The “accidental shooting” involved Plaxico carrying a concealed weapon in the club which slid out of his waistband and down his leg. In an attempt to secure the weapon, Plaxico inadvertently grabbed the trigger, causing the gun to fire and subsequently shooting himself in the leg. I believe that it was the events that followed the shooting and not the shooting itself that actually led to his 2 year prison sentence.

Plaxico was treated and released from a New York hospital and turned himself in to authorities the following day. Once it was noted that the Police hadn’t been notified by neither the club or the hospital that treated Plaxico’s injuries, NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg was so outraged that he urged that Burress be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, saying that any punishment short of the minimum 3½ years for unlawful carrying of a handgun would be “a mockery of the law”. (via Plaxico’s Wikipedia)

Fast forward to today and you have Plaxico Burress in jail for shooting himself in the leg. Was justice served? I dunno. I just hate to see another Black athlete jailed over some bullsh*t.

For the first time since serving his prison sentence for taking part in a dog fighting operation, former Falcon’s quarterback Michael Vick sits down in an on screen interview. He’s finally free to talk about his experiences now that he’s been picked up by a team. Friday, during a press conference, Vick announced that he signed a two year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Hopefully, the man can finally move forward and live his life. Vick has served his time, paid his dues but some people still can’t let go of the animosity.

In an in-depth one on one interview with 60 minute’s James Brown, Vick explains what he did, why he did it and how he says he’s changed.

When I was in prision I was disgusted because of what I let happen to those animals. I could have put a stop it. I could have walked away from it. I could have shut the entire operation down. But I didn’t…

When asked how he felt about losing his huge contract. Vick humbly admitted that he deserved it:

Football don’t even matter. Losing a $135 million dollar contract doesn’t matter. It don’t matter. I deserved to lose that because of what I was doing…

Young Jeezy issued a warm “Welcome Back” to former Atlanta Falcon quarterback Michael Vick recently during his stop in Virginia for the AMW tour. The two chopped it up and Mike introduced his lil cousin, who’s an aspiring artist. Vick, who’s finally free from federal custody is also in Atlanta today to speak on behalf of the Human Society. He is currently at the New Life Community Center to speak to kids about dogs, dogfighting and how to deal with potentially violent dogs, but according to the Associated Press, media wasn’t allowed in the building:

The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback entered the New Life Community Center through a back entrance Saturday for an event put on by the Humane Society of the United States.

However, several members of the community were barred from entering the building. The society also refused to allow The Associated Press to enter.

Vick is still searching for a home team and has been conditionally reinstated by the league after completing his 23-month federal sentence for running a dogfighting ring. His Atlanta visit is a step to improve his image since his release. We’re all rooting for you Mike!

All is right with the world! Former Falcon’s quarterback Michael Vick has been reinstated back into the NFL. Finally. With conditions. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement yesterday via a press conference. Goodell’s conditional reinstatement permits Vick to latch on immediately with any team that will have him, with full membership and participation. Vick can even play in the final two preseason games. This is major being that there are still those who hate on the embattled quarterback. He’s been given another chance and I’m oh so happy right now!

Vick is suspended for the beginning of the regular season, but can show up at headquarters and do all the heavy lifting required to fit in and come back.
