Atlanta-based rapper Shawty Lo is in the news this week after several sites have drawn comparisons between his ‘All My Baby Mamas’ reality show and OWN-TV’s recent announcement about another Atlanta man with similar issues getting a green light for his show.

I thought it would be interesting to speak one on one with Lo about the comparisons, especially in light of all of the protests and petitions HIS show received when it was picked up (and dropped) by Oxygen last year.

On his show being stereotypical and/or ‘glorifying’ baby mama…
Basically, I can get what they mean by ‘glorifying’ because the name of my show was ‘All My Baby Mamas’… I had nothing to do with that. Period. That was something the network came up with and I was telling them, I didn’t like that name.
I have 11 kids and 10 baby mamas. 11+10 is 21 and I wanted by show to be called, ‘Shawty Lo: Being 21.’
But they did what they wanted to do and I think that’s one reason we got backlash…

Having multiple baby mamas seems to be the norm nowadays and drama that comes along with all those mixed relationships would make for perfect ‘real life’ reality television.
Rapper Shawty Lo tried to bring his situation to mainstream a few years ago with ‘All My Baby Mamas’ (click HERE to watch) but his story was banned from tv after thousands signed a petition stating it was too stereotypical.

That being said, a rapper with several baby mamas is an issue but apparently a well spoken father of 34 isn’t. (insert side-eye!)
Jay Williams from Iyanla: Fix My Life, the guy who had fathered 34 children from 17 different woman is now getting a shot at bringing his real life problems to the small screen.
Williams story (which you can watch in it’s entirety HERE) sparked several ‘Fix My Life’ follow ups and many suggested that it was his intent all along to secure his own show.

The popular up and coming rapper popped bottles all night while a few of Atlanta’s favorites came out to join him.

The miniature rapper has been in the press lately after a his ‘All My Babies Mamas’ reality show was picked up by the Oxygen Network and later dropped after public outrage sparked an online petition.

Coincidentally, Lo who has at least 10 baby mamas and 11 children, was reportedly picked up by Atlanta Police downtown yesterday after a warrant was issued for delinquent child support payments.

Lo’s reality show fame was short lived after protests from the Black community sparked an online petition that got over 30,000 signatures.

Oxygen said little to nothing about the situation, but it appears that the petition has caused them to dump Shawty Lo’s reality show.
According to the DailyBeast, The people have spoken. Lamb’s petition got over 30,000 signatures and now Oxygen Media has decided to go ahead and cancel the show.
But wait…. there’s more good news, or bad news – depending on your perspective.
Shawty Lo, who reportedly has at least 10 baby mamas already, will soon be adding a new “baby mama” to his list!

Two weeks ago, a friend sent author and media commentator Sabrina Lamb a clip of Oxygen’s upcoming one-hour reality TV special ‘All My Babies’ Mamas’
and she was reportedly shocked by what she saw.

Lamb, who works full-time with underserved youth in the New York City area, was furious and utterly disgusted. She was so shocked, in fact, that she decided to protest against the new reality show.
According it’s the press release, the show promises to highlight the life of rapper Shawty Lo, his 11 kids and their 10 mothers, and to chronicle what happens when “the man of the house has to split his affection multiple ways while trying to create order.”
Lamb says she was tired of seeing the Black family portrayed negatively on reality TV, and felt was the show was a blatant use of child-exploitation to market TV programming, so she immediately took action to speak out against it.
