I now pronounce this FLASHBACK Friday. Way before Cee-Lo came to his senses and decided to reunite with the group (Goodie Mob Reunion Concert Footage), there was a short documentary developed around the Goodie Mob which carried the name of their “One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show” project. The entire Dungeon Family, including Outkast, participated in the video and I give the directors much props for putting all this great footage together. If you’re a true southern hip-hop head, this is one video that’ll make your day. Happy Friday!
Video ~ Goodie Mob Documentary (Part 1)
Synopsis:Goodie Mob, based in Atlanta, Georgia, is widely considered one of the founding hip hop acts of the Dirty South movement. Members Cee-Lo (Thomas Callaway), Khujo Goodie (Willie Knighton, Jr.), T-Mo Goodie (Robert Barnett), and Big Gipp (Cameron Gipp) make up the group, which has been functioning since 1995.
“GOODIE MOB”, as it’s written on their album covers, stands for “GOOD DIE Mostly Over Bullshit”. Cee-Lo notes in a song off the Soul Food album that, “[If] you take out one ‘O’ it stands for ‘GOD Is Every Man Of Blackness.’ ”
Its members were all born in Atlanta, and the group is based there with the rest of the Dungeon Family, a collective which includes OutKast and P.A. (Parental Advisory). Goodie was first heard featured on several songs from OutKast’s first album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.
Cee-Lo was the most visible member of the group prior to his departure in 2000 (among other projects, he is now recording as Gnarls Barkley), while Big Gipp has made several rounds on other Dungeon Family members’ albums and a solo album Mutant Mindframe, and T-Mo and Khujo form a duo within the group called The Lumberjacks.
My heart is still aching since being advised about Big Boi’s cheatin ways while at DisneyWorld, well now he’s been spotted at SeaWorld gettin his midget groove on. Twan frolicked with the penguins in a lil promo-vid for SeaWorld’s Penguin Encounter where he was only about a foot taller than his new friends. Hhmph!
Yeah…I’m salty Twan. I so wanna be where you are! Enjoy your vacay…
Seems as thought my boo has been cheatin on me! Twaaaaan…say it ain’t so!

Big Boi was spotted chillin with Minnie Mouse during his vacay at Disney World. You betta watch your back Twan, I heard Mickey is a jealous mofo! It seems as though Big Boi is getting some much needed R&R before hitting the promo track for the release of his highly anticipated solo project, “Sir Lucious Leftfoot: Son of Chico Dusty”. The first single from the upcoming album, Royal Flush, was released March 2008 and the second single is “Sumthin’s Gotta Give” featuring Mary J. Blige.
I think this is the cutest photo ever! A-town meets Magic Kingdom…Love it! Mad props to Freshalina for the heads up on the pic!
I spotted this video a while ago but totally forgot to post it but I’m sure you Dungeon Family fans will appreciate this video footage captured during their Vibe cover shoot in Piedmont Park last month. I’m prone to believe the consensus that a Dungeon Family reunion is the only thing that could save this town.
The Dungeon Family. The first shall be last and the last shall be first. Anybody who has been here since the mid-90s can tell you that even moreso than Dallas and Jermaine and only second to LaFace, the DF made Atlanta cool, so only they can reinstitute the groove and save the city. If that fails, expect me to speak to you from New York or Los Angeles in 2010. ~ via TheUnderwriter’s “Why Atlanta is Dying Off”
There’s way too much infiltration going on and we need to bring it back full circle. Back to OUR sound….go straight NATIVE on they “A”zz. *sigh* In the meantime, we’ll all just burn out our “A”pods listening to classics like Outkast’s Southernplaylisticadillacmuzik, Goodie Mob’s Soul Food and Witchdoctor’s A S.W.A.T. Spiritual Healing.
I was in Big Boi heaven Saturday night as he, C-Bone, Khujo Goodie and a few other Dungeon Family members all converged on The W Hotel in midtown for 790 The Zone’s Stewpendous Awards Post-Party, Sponsored by Crown Royal. I was posted front and center as it all went down and grabbed a bit of video coverage for you fellow Outkast stans. We all know I’m not a videographer, but I did my best while holding my drink in one hand and doing my two step to the beat.
Now, y’all can take this anyway you wanna, but I could totally care less if not nann one of you watch these videos! On the real….I’m having my own lil concert over and over again with this footage…
Peep all 30 + minutes of my boo Twan Big Boi under the cut: (more…)
Once a staple at Greenbriar Flea Market, Eddie’s Gold Teeth catered to any ATLien who had an appetite for a grill. So in honor of the “Flashback,” I thought I’d devote a post to Mr. Eddie Plein. The “godfather of grills,” also known as the owner of Eddie’s Gold Teeth. I’ve never met Eddie personally, but I HAVE met several recipients of his custom works. By the way, you have too…there’s Big Boi, Andre 3000, Big Gipp, Lil Jon, Cee-Lo….the list goes on and on. Not to mention the non-rapping regular joes who just wanted to have a lil GOLD in their mouf!
The fad has since gave way to porcelain veneers but the fond memories of the bling shall remain in our hearts forever.
Yep…Eddie Plein was/is responsible for all of THAT and contrary to popular belief, wearing grills started in South America and not Southwest Atlanta! Ha! Peep what Eddie had to say about how the fad started, why his craziest request was from Andre 3000 and what he’s up to now: (more…)
I haven’t forgotten that it’s Friday. Not me! I’m just a bit slow this morning. Anyway, add this video to your flashback collection. It’s the Dungeon Family’s “Trans DF Express” and features Outkast, Goodie Mob, Sleepy Brown, Rico Wade, Slim Cutta Calhoun, C-Bone…and whoever else you can pick out. You’ll probably see one or all at Greenbriar this weekend anyway but I’m still mad I missed their Vibe photoshoot/barbeque at Piedmont Park the other day.
