When I read this story, I had a strange feeling of deja vu. I know you guys recall the Mom who left her two infants in the car to shoplift, well this weekend yet another Walmart shopper was caught and given the mother of the year award for leaving her twins in a hot car while she shopped at a Clayton County Walmart:
A Barnesville mother was arrested Saturday night after leaving her 4-month-old twins in her locked car while shopping at a Clayton County Wal-Mart.
The infants, who weren’t harmed, were discovered by another shopper who could hear their cries through the cracked windows of Jenesia Williams’ Toyota Scion.
“I was in total shock,” said Darlene Marshall, of Stockbridge, who was parked next to the Scion. She and her husband were leaving the Ellenwood store, a little after 10 p.m., when she discovered the twins.
Marshall said she hesitated before calling 911.
“I just assumed the mother would be right out,” she said. Instead, it would be “at least 20 minutes” before Williams, 26, reappeared, Marshall said.
Police were waiting for Williams, who was arrested and charged with two counts of child cruelty. The children were taken to an area hospital, where they were check out and released to the custody their father. (source)
It’s been upwards of 90 degrees lately and those kids could have died in that heat! I’m calling for all you dumb mothers to give up your kids today. You don’t have to keep em if you don’t have common sense. Seriously. Their lives are in your hands and if you can’t protect them let somebody else do it. That’s my PSA for the day.
An Atlanta man was convicted on Thursday of taking his 16-year-old first cousin to Metropolitan Parkway for prostitution.
Zaccheus Obie, 26, will be sentenced on Wednesday for one count of pimping a minor. He faces a possible 20-year prison sentence. According to testimony, police learned of Obie after the girl was arrested in May 2008. He bought her clothes and paid to have her hair done before she was sent to stroll Metropolitan Parkway. According to testimony, he took her money.
While the case involving his 16-year-old cousin has been resolved, he also is charged with raping the girl’s younger sister, also Obie’s first cousin. That case has not been taken to trial. (Source)
A routine traffic stop netted Clayton County officials over 100 pounds of marijuana last night. Around 5 p.m., a Clayton officer pulled over a Ford van for making an improper lane change on Mt. Zion Road near Morrow. As the officer approached the driver side window, he observed that the driver was extremely nervous and that there was a strong smell coming from the vehicle that he identified as possibly being marijuana. When officers searched the van, they found 100 pounds of suspected marijuana with a street value of about a half-million dollars.
The van’s driver, 48-year-old Rowan Jeffers, was arrested on drug trafficking charges, and police later executed a search warrant at his residence on New Haven Drive in Jonesboro, where they found another seven pounds of marijuana in the garage.
Channel 2 cameras were rolling when Clayton County’s SWAT team raided the home last night. It was revealed that this is the third time the couple’s home has been raided:
“I don’t know what’s going on…that’s all,” said Sheralyn Felix
.Channel 2 Action News reporter Eric Philips said, “That’s the same thing you said in 2006.”
“There you have it,” she said. “I’m a poor woman…I’m a poor woman, just in the circumstance and I don’t understand why these people are here.”
Randy and Sheralyn Felix, as well as the driver of the vehicle, Rowan Jeffers, all face drug charges.
Meet Sandra Alford, 46 of Lilburn, Georgia. Alford was arrested Friday for false imprisonment and cruelty to children for using handcuffs to restrain her 15-year-old son after either she or family friend Larry Powell (pictured below) called Lilburn police to report an “unruly juvenile.”
Police arrived and were told that the two were attempting to perform an “exorcism” on the young boy. An investigation revealed that the teen had been held against his will with handcuffs and was denied food and water for periods of 12 hours at a time over a three-day period as the two attempted to evict the evil spirit that had taken over his body. The teen was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and dehydration and later released.
The officer who applied for the arrest warrants noted that Alfred may suffer from schizophrenia and delusions. She and Powell both remain in jail awaiting a June 26th hearing. The case is now under investigation by the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Family and Children’s Services.
All I wanna know is…how did investigators know they were lying about the exorcism? Who’s to say that bad “A”zz kid wasn’t possessed? *sigh* Now there’s one more teen aged devil walking amongst us. Lord save us all…
I know you’re not surprised to hear that Atlanta is among the five worst cities in the U.S. when it comes to road rage incidents and aggressive driving habits. Ha! You can’t be. If you live here…you see it every day. Crazy “A”zz people cutting you off, speeding up so you can’t merge, high-beaming you for driving too slow. Yeah….all of that. We’ve got it bad here and I can only assume it’s because we spend half of our lives sitting in traffic.
“In any populated city in this country, you’ll find a lot of road incidents, arguments, whatever you’ll call it,” said Lt. Paul Cosper of the Georgia State Patrol. “And more the roads are congested, the more aggravated people will get. When they get aggravated, they’ll yell or start blowing their horn. The next thing, hand gestures get involved and it escalates from there,” Cosper said.
The way to defuse most road rage situations is easy, Cosper said: “You become a courteous driver.” (Source)
My favorite African proverb says: “There are two things over which you have complete dominion, authority and control….your mind and your mouth.” Notice that “Traffic” isn’t included in that list, so as you sit in traffic later today remember to be kind to your fellow drivers. If someone cuts you off, issue a friendly wave instead of the finger. Your efforts combined might actually move the ATL further down the list next year. That’s my PSA for the day….
The MARTA train operator who was caught texting and driving by a concerned twitterer (who captured the moment via the TwitPic above) *cough* <it wasn’t me!> has been suspended for three days (with pay?):
A MARTA suspended a rail conductor caught texting recently while at the controls of a train.
The conductor will be off the job for three days, the maximum penalty MARTA can impose, according to transit officials.
A MARTA rider posted photos on Twitter of the conductor text messaging while operating a train.
MARTA officials said they are reviewing current policies on texting in light of similar problems that caused serious crashes in other cities.
Safety on the train is a big deal….but so is twitter. Don’t sleep on it! No one is safe from the tweets.
I dropped a hint on Twitter yesterday that quite a few people took note of. In case you missed it:
Somebody just told me some tomfoolery is going on at Fulton County Courthouse. Those papers shoulda been stamped & filed by now. Friday, June 12th 4:54pm
Well, a source informed me a few weeks ago that Usher’s divorce papers were in the works and swore me to secrecy. The same source called me yesterday confused as to why the papers hadn’t been released and expressed concern as to how someone inside Fulton County could block public documents from being revealed. As you know, court documents are open record, so today they were finally posted via Fulton County’s website, with a hearing scheduled for July 15, 2009: Continue Reading…
