Monique and Steve Harvey, photographed above with Carol’s Daughter founder Lisa Price, helped set off the lauch of Carol’s Daughters 9th store, which opened in Atlanta’s Lenox Square Mall. [sidebar: I wonder what Monique was thinking in that pic? Hopefully Fresh will mark this one in the side-eye hall of fame.] You may have even spotted Carol’s Daughter founder Lisa Price, at the location all weekend long. Friday kicked off the grand opening celebratory events with a VIP charity event. Comedian Steve Harvey, Monique, Boris Kodjoe, Steve Stoute, and many other industry heads dropped by Lenox Square to support the event where 33% of all proceeds went Mary J. Blige’s FFAWN organization.

The event lasted all weekend long with celebrity sightings on both Saturday and Sunday as well.  Tameka ‘Tiny” Cottle was spotted shopping Saturday afternoon while Keri Hilson held a signing at the location on Sunday. There was even an Atlanta Housewife sighting! More flix below:

Comedian Mo’Nique was spotted in Vegas during the 7th Annual Hoodie awards looking simply mah-vel-ous!  The new host of a BET late night recently hit the cover of JET magazine where she discussed her decision to shed the pounds. In the interview, Mo’Nique says she knew it was time to lose weight after an AHA moment during a conversation with her husband, Sidney Hicks:

“I was very comfortable at 262 pounds,” she says. “I’m in the bathroom mirror one day admiring 262. And Sid says to me when he comes out of the shower, ‘Mama, how much do you weigh?’ I said, ‘262.’ And he said, ‘Mmm.’”

Mo’Nique says she knew something was coming next. “He said to me in the most gentle, loving way, ‘I want you for a lifetime,’” she says. “Baby, I started working out right then.”

Rumors have circulated that Mo’Nique took the easy way out and had gastric bypass surgery, but she flatly denies those accusations. The author of “Skinny Bitches Are Evil” and “Skinny Cooks Can’t Be Trusted” made a decision for her health that she makes no excuses for it. I applaud her. She looks great!

In addition to her recent weight loss and venture into late night television, Mo’Nique has also starred in an intriguing new film where she plays the abusive mother of an obese teen who was impregnated twice by her father. The film, entitled “Precious” premiered in January 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for best drama, as well as a Special Jury Prize for supporting actress Mo’Nique. The film has received the golden touch of both Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry so you already know it’s a heartwrencher. Check out the trailer:

Movie Trailer ~ “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire”

I saw the trailer a while back and was struck by it’s intensity. I honestly can’t wait to see this film. “Precious” is expected to be released nationwide November 6, 2009.

Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and slimmed down comedienne Mo’Nique did a bit of clowning around backstage during the 2009 BET Upfronts back in April. They each took a moment to “Stanky Leg” it up for the cameras and Chilli issues a mini-message at the end. Cute!

Monica (pictured above with BET CEO Debra Lee), Comedianne Monique and Actor Terry Crews (”Everybody Hates Chris”) will all be featured in BET’s upcoming lineup next season. Mo and Crews will have reality shows built around their lives, while Monique will host her own late night comedy show.

The slate of shows represents the first programming under new co-presidents Loretha Jones and Stephen Hill, who took over the position following the exit of Reginald Hudlin last year. During a sneak preview Jones and Hill said the new programming will represent a branding strategy of family values and community pride – an attempt at moving away from some of the negative African American programs the network has received criticism for in the past.

“Monica: Standing Up” will focus on the Monica’s family life and her comeback album, “Breakin’ Up With Mo’Nique” will mark the network’s first late-night talk show and “Crews Control” will focus on the actor, his wife and five kids.

If you’re an avid reader of this site, you recieved this information months ago when I sat down with Monica one on one.  That’s my girl and I’m soooo happy for her! Congrats again Mo….I’ll definitely be watching!
