Real music is back!! Monica aka Monica Brown played host to a private listening session for her upcoming CODE RED project and I had the pleasure of attending last night (August 27, 2015).
CODE RED, Mo’s eighth studio album, is scheduled for release September 18, 2015 but the songstress gave a few of Atlanta’s top tastemakers, media, and DJ’s a sneak peek of her project during the preview, held at Atlanta’s Patchwerk Recording Studio.
Monica says she named the album ‘CODE RED’ because R&B music today needs to be revitalized or ‘brought back to life. She explains her album title as follows:
When my first record dropped, I was only 13 years old. So now at 34, I look back at it and I can see how important it was for our generation.
So trying to reconnect to an entirely different generation of people, but with the same love and the same music. I look at it as a ‘re-introduction’.
Attendees included Mo’s husband, Shannon Brown, Polow Da Don, Young Jeezy, Kap-G and many more.

Singers Monica Brown and Ciara once had a friendship that lasted over a decade but it seems that the two had a fast fall out shortly after Ciara’s break up with Atlanta-based rapper Future.
The fall-out became evident late last September when Ciara hit the tweets with a few subliminals aimed at her former friend.
Word on the curb was that Ciara caught wind that Mo was friends with Future’s baby mama (the one he cheated on CiCi with), but Monica says that’s not the case AT ALL.
They say I was friends with somebody he was cheating with, none of that stuff is true. I AM friends with one of the mothers of one of Future’s children, but it’s the mom that you never see, you never hear, that Ciara also has a good relationship with.
So a lot of the stuff you read is very untrue. Nothing that happened with us had anything to do with him.

Rapper Meek Mill hit the club alongside his boo Nicki Minaj to play host to the Official Pink Print Tour Atlanta afterparty last night (August 3, 2015).
Meek clearly ignored all the naysayers who are still laughing at his Drake Diss track, to enjoy another successful leg of his girl’s world tour (*Drake Voice).

Monica Brown has always been one of my favorite Atlanta artists and just a few days ago, she celebrated the 20th anniversary of her first album, Ms. Thang!
Producer Dallas Austin, who is hailed as the driving force behind TLC’s rise to stardom, saw Monica do a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All” and was so impressed that he took her under his wing and signed her to his Arista Records-distributed label, Rowdy Records.
It was on July 18, 1995, that Monica’s debut album hit shelves to much fanfare and acclaim for her strong vocals and feisty swagger. Ms. Thang peaked at No. 7 on Billboard‘s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and produced multiple hit singles, like “Don’t Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days),” and the double A-Side single, “Before You Walk Out of My Life” and “Why I Love You So Much.” Both singles peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, making Monica the youngest artist in history — she was 14 at the time — with consecutive No. 1 songs.
Both Dallas and Monica hit the net recently to reminisce about the album that started it all for the talented songstress.
