I pulled this oldie but goodie from the archives cause I’m not sittin in front of a computer all day today. I’m headed out for some R&R and may catch me a “call a cab” over at Wet Willies.

I caught up with Killer Mike to capture his Old School Atlanta Memory on tape a few weeks ago. I was expecting the same ole same ole, a’la tales of Freaknik and/or Greenbriar Mall but what I got was Mike’s XXX memories of The Foxy Lady strip club and funny tales of Piedmont Park. It gets no better than this!

Funny how all this time has passed and Killer Mike is still thinking about sex all day… Dontcha just love those A-Town men

The historic Clermont Hotel is shutting it’s doors amidst reports of several health code violations.  According to the AJC, Fulton County’s Department of Health and Wellness has ordered the hotel to shut down by December 31st after finding a slew of dirty linen, old bedding and bed bug stains.

Inspectors also found mold growing on the walls, black water spilling from faucets and broken toilet fixtures. A sign on the door notes that the hotel closed on Dec. 12th, but residents have until Dec. 31st to find new lodging.

Some of you reading this may not know a thing about the Clermont, but that’s OK. The hotel was built in 1924 as an apartment building but was converted to a hotel in 1940. The photo above may seem familiar if you’ve ever visited Dugan’s or drove down Ponce. The lounge *cough* was a spot that earned its reputation as a after hours joint where shady ATLiens went to watch over the hill strippers.

Bubba Sparxx, Killer Mike & Cool Breeze rapped and ode to the “Clermont Lounge” a few years ago and I still bump it on my “A” Pod. Take a walk down memory lane below:  (Strong Language):

One important note for all you shady ATLiens, the basement Clermont Lounge, and its “aging troupe of strippers” will be unaffected by the hotel’s closing.  Now go forth and make it drizzle…

Don’t get it twisted. Killer Mike may have changed his name but he’ still hardcore!  Check out his new video for “I’mma Fool Wit It” featuring fellow Grand Hustler Big Kuntry King. The video features both of the the big teddy bears as they act a fool in vegas. Looks like they had a ball filmin it. I can only imagine the footage that was left on the cutting room floor.

Oh Lawd! Killer Mike has done a “Diddy” on us. He’s gone and changed his dayum name! Crazy thing is… he didn’t even call to tell me. I had to read it on the gotdayum net. Needless to say, I’m a bit perturbed, but I ain’t trippin. Mike, who now wants to be known as “MIKE BIGGA” says that it’s something he’s wanted to do for quite some time now and after reading his statement, I can understand and stand by his decision.  Mike says:

I read all the comments all hip-hop sites. And I love how smart the hip-hop fans are and they say ‘Man, this guy is dope. Why he so slept on.’ Then, it always be a comment under there that be like ‘I don’t suppose the name Killer Mike be holding him back? You can’t get corporate sponsorship with that.’ (laughs)

I’m going with the name Mike Bigga because I really feel like I’m bigger than what I have been in the past and I’ve managed to get legendary status from being a raw rap guy in terms of being able to come out of the shadows of the hardships I’ve had,” the entertainer said as he referenced recent tragedies that have occurred in his area.

I’ve become my own boss in a bigger partnership with Grind Time Official and Grand Hustle now and I’m just on to bigger and better things. And I figure what better time than now, going into this new season that’s going to be coming up in January when Tip gets out and let the world know I’m on to bigger and better things. (Source)

Immediately after reading his statement I knew he was right. In fact I feel him. Mike is a wonderful rapper/performer but he’s also a great orator/political activist who is definitely bound for great things. The dropping the “Killer” was a smart thing to do since I can honestly see him running for office sometime soon. Keep grinding Mike Bigga! StraightFromTheA is behind you all the way.

My boo Twan Big Boi headlined the Atlanta leg of Heineken’s Red Star Soul event. The host for the evening was funnyman Kevin Hart and the opening acts were Mickey Factz and Mick Boogie.

Of course all of your a-town favs were in the house, including Killer Mike, Big Kountry King, Lil Duval and more. One highlight of my evening was meeting Kevin Hart, who lit up the room with his lil chocolate presence. Kevin and I chatted for a bit and he enlightened me about life and purpose when he explained to he how he never imagined being paid so well to do what he loves. He also stole a lil piece of my heart when he threw the “A” just for me:

With all the drama that’s going on during this 2nd season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, it’s great to see at a lil bit of positivity. Former cast member, DeShawn Snow, who was booted from the show cause she was way too normal, recently held a free camp for young girls through her foundation, The DeShawn Snow Foundation:

For me, being a teenager was like being on a rollercoaster. There were bumps and swift turns and so many ups and downs that, at times, I worried about fitting in. I felt like I was always faced with tough decisions to make. I was torn between figuring out who I was and dealing with the many issues that teenagers face. As most teenage girls are, I was often preoccupied with what I wore, how I looked, and who my friends were. Then there were the stomach-turning butterflies I felt when I wondered how boys perceived me. An added obstacle, so I thought, was my wondering how my family and friends perceived me.

I established the DeShawn Snow Foundation to assist teenage girls who face challenges and roadblocks like I did.  I believe that together we can make a difference and have a substantial impact in steering our teenage girls toward successful life paths.  I want to be part of making a difference, so I have dedicated my life to empowering and enriching the lives of girls.

DeShawn through her foundation created the empowerment camp, a free camp for girls designed to aid in building self esteem to girls aged 11-17.  The camp was held a few weeks ago and registration was totally free to the first 200 girls.  Killer Mike, Sister2Sister’s Jamie Foster Brown and TV Anchor Dierdre Dukes were among the professionals invited to provide motivational guidance and encouragement to the youngsters.
