Check out the newly released video for Jay-Z’s hot ode to New York, “New York State of Mind” which features Alicia Keys and is directed by Hype Williams.
Security must have been tight on Times Square that day. There’s not one sign of Lil Mama anywhere…
T. Pain arrives at a party in a customized hearse bumpin’ Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.” with a coffin in the back. Upon further inspection, the coffin contains Pain’s signature top hat, a grill and his Big Ass Chain. Hmmm…. what’s going on here? Is this the death of T. Pain’s former image or is he throwing autotunes away for good?
“So let’s talk about the Jay sh*t/ Some days I wish that I ain’t never say sh*t/ And Diddy said ain’t no excuse for what I did/ But I felt like he was knocking the same sh*t that feeds my kids/ I do music ’cause I need it to make my world spin/ So when you down it, it’s like you dissing my girlfriend.”
Jay-Z hit up the Oprah Winfrey Show today and almost everyone I know, including myself, rushed home to see it. Oprah visisted Jay’s childhood home in the Marcy projects in New York and also followed him around as CEO of Rockafella. What I found most interesting about the show was Oprah & Jay-Z’s discussion about the use of the “N” word in rap songs. As we know, O is not real tolerant of rappers (ask Ludacris) but she allowed Jay-Z to have his say on the matter. In the end, they agreed to disagree with both making valid points on the subject.
Lil Mama recently reveals that she had absolutely no idea that Jay-Z didn’t want her onstage with he and Alicia Keys during the closing performance of the 2009 MTV VMAs. Even though he tapped her on the leg and even though she heard him say something bout “T-Pain-ing” (a reference to rapper T-Pain hoppin onstage unsolicited during a previous Jay-Z performance of D.O.A.). Lil Mama says she didn’t realize anything was wrong until she saw the video later. She also issued (yet another) apology to Jay-Z:
To Jay in Particular, as a Brooklyn native (whom I am also)…in that moment there was nothing but respect and honor. It was a joyous moment. Whenever we share happiness or celebration…I mean that’s how a reaction takes place usually and it’s graceful. It’s never to disrespect you know. And I meant no harm. I was enjoying myself and I was enjoying his performance.
In case you missed it, here’s Lil Mama apology No. 1. I swear the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards should go down in history as THE most apologetic event EVER! Peep the video below: (more…)
Kanye West hit up Jay Leno and offered yet another apology for the stunt he pulled on Taylor Swift during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (Click Here to watch). I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a bit of Kanye overload right now. But since I’m all for the people, I thought I’d share this transcript and video of Kanye’s 3rd apology on Jay Leno. (Apology #1, Apology #2)
JAY LENO: Have a seat, my friend. First of all, let me say thank you for honoring this commitment. A lot of times, people — They kind of back out at the last minute, or they have a publicist or someone call and say, “Oh, I’m sorry, my client’s not available.” So thank you for coming and doing this, in light of all the things that have been going on.
Tell me about your day. Have you had a tough day today?
KANYE WEST: Yeah, it’s been extremely difficult. I just — just dealing with the fact that I hurt someone or took anything away, you know, from a talented artist or from anyone, because I only wanted to help people. My entire life, I’ve only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right. And I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong, and it wasn’t a spectacle or just — you know, it’s actually someone’s emotions, you know, that I stepped on. And it was very — it was just — it was rude, period. And, you know, I’d like to be able to apologize to her in person. And I wanted to –
JAY LENO: So when did you know you were wrong? Was it afterwards? as you were doing it? When did it strike you, “Uh-oh”?
Lil Mama has sent out an apology via her PR peeps for her actions last night. In case you missed it, Rapper Lil Mama decided to grace the stage during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards closing performance, in which Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performed their first-ever collaboration, “Empire State of Mind.” The America’s Best Dance Crew judge hopped out of her seat and onto the stage during the song’s final seconds and pranced around onstage as if she was the headlining act. Word is, Jay attempted to avoid embarrassing her by tapping her on her leg, but apparently she didn’t get the hint. In her statement, Lil Mama says she was merely caught up in the moment:
“I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys,” the statement read. “I admire them and look up to them as role models. ‘Empire State of Mind’ had my emotions running high. In that moment I came up onstage to celebrate my two icons singing about NY.” (source)
Kanye West also issued another apology to Taylor Swift for stealing her joy during the awards show as well. Now, I’m still standing by my original assessment that this is all a hoax wonderfully crafted by MTV writers, but viewers are angered so much by Kanye seemingly disrespecting a lil country singer, that they’re gonna keep this going for a while. This is ratings gold!! Why not keep up the drama?? Anyway, Kanye hit up his blog yet again to issue a 2nd apology. The new statement says: (more…)
