With all the drama that’s going on during this 2nd season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, it’s great to see at a lil bit of positivity. Former cast member, DeShawn Snow, who was booted from the show cause she was way too normal, recently held a free camp for young girls through her foundation, The DeShawn Snow Foundation:
For me, being a teenager was like being on a rollercoaster. There were bumps and swift turns and so many ups and downs that, at times, I worried about fitting in. I felt like I was always faced with tough decisions to make. I was torn between figuring out who I was and dealing with the many issues that teenagers face. As most teenage girls are, I was often preoccupied with what I wore, how I looked, and who my friends were. Then there were the stomach-turning butterflies I felt when I wondered how boys perceived me. An added obstacle, so I thought, was my wondering how my family and friends perceived me.
I established the DeShawn Snow Foundation to assist teenage girls who face challenges and roadblocks like I did. I believe that together we can make a difference and have a substantial impact in steering our teenage girls toward successful life paths. I want to be part of making a difference, so I have dedicated my life to empowering and enriching the lives of girls.
DeShawn through her foundation created the empowerment camp, a free camp for girls designed to aid in building self esteem to girls aged 11-17. The camp was held a few weeks ago and registration was totally free to the first 200 girls. Killer Mike, Sister2Sister’s Jamie Foster Brown and TV Anchor Dierdre Dukes were among the professionals invited to provide motivational guidance and encouragement to the youngsters. Everyone wants to know what’s up with DeShawn Snow. Y’ll remember her don’t you? The only true “housewife” featured on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta, who just happened to be booted off of the show because she was too well adjusted (i.e. boring). Well, DeShawn is still pursuing her path to righteousness by obtaining her Masters of Divinity degree. She’s still managing her foundation and has also started writing her own sermons. Loyal reader KRSWon sent over her most recent piece yesterday called Turning Your Trials into Triumps. Here’s a sample below:
Whatever situation you are in, you are equipped to handle it. God would not allow you to be in something that you cannot handle. According to the Bible, you have the ability to turn your defeat into victory and your trial into triumph. Instead of being a victim, you can become a victor (James 1:2-8).
When you face the trials of life, you should evaluate them in the light of what God is doing for you. Therefore when trials come, you should immediately give thanks to the Lord and adopt a joyful attitude. It may not be easy to do, but just look at your trials through the eyes of faith.
Outlook determines outcome and attitude determines action. (Read More)
The new season hasn’t even started yet and I already miss DeShawn. I’m sure Kandi Burress will be an exciting replacement but DeShawn added a bit of balance to all the craziness that may be lacking next season. Y’all just watch. DeShawn’s gonna end up with her own show on The Bible Network and she’ll be saving souls while the other “housewives” are still talking ish and losing their properties! With God on your side who can be against you?!?
You can keep up with DeShawn via her official website. Tell her ATLien said “Wassup!”
My favorite Real Housewife of Atlanta, DeShawn Snow, has been given the boot from next seasons show. DeShawn’s firing comes as no surprise, since reality television is all about the drama and Snow had none. The level-headed beauty sat down with Essence Magazine recently to clear the air about her termination:
[One of the producers] called and said that I was “too human for a circus show” and that because the show did so well, they are about to pump up the drama and they didn’t think that I would fit in. He gave me an example, saying that during the reunion when I found out what a few of the other ladies said about me, they were expecting me to say more, but I’m not the type to go “television” and start acting crazy because somebody’s talking about me. I’m fine with the decision. It wasn’t my decision. They let me go and there are no hard feelings.
NecoleBitchie bitched about it this morning and had me rolling…
“I was supportive of the show until I found out that half of them bishes were broke. Flaunting around in Cadillacs and Rovers when they should have been driving Hyundais. DeShawn’s storyline was boring, but she was normal and gave some balance to the show. And putting a white woman with a bad weave on the show is not balance. I’m tired of seeing stereotypical loud, gold digging, ignant ass, neck rolling black women on television fronting about what they do and do not have.“
Some say Tameka Foster-Raymond is in the running to take DeShawns place… No comment.
