Actress Gabborey Sidebe was Jane Fonda’s featured guest a few days ago for “Power of the Arts,” a screening held at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta to benefited Fonda’s teen pregnancy prevention nonprofit, the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (G-CAPP).
As the old saying goes, ‘those who forget their past are bound to repeat it’ and Fonda dug up footage of a painful period in her life and put it on the big screen to remind herself never to go there again!
It was a time in her life that she would just as soon forget…. let alone share with a theater of strangers, Fonda shared a personal, behind-the-scenes glimpse at one of the lowest points in her career, if not her most embarrassing endeavor as an actor.
“The more I think about it, it’s about a girl with no voice who let herself be bullied,” said Fonda reflecting on that period in her life.
Fonda hosted the one time viewing of the footage, that was captured in 1962, at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta along with a panel discussion and VIP reception following the viewing.
During the discussion, Gabourey shared her own struggles dealing with being called a “one hit” Hollywood wonder for her Academy nominated role in “Precious”, stating:
By all accounts I’m apparently NOT supposed to be an actress.
I’m not a size zero… I’m not blond… I dont have ivory skin or even lighter skin and people write articles about how I don’t fit in and how Precious will be my only word and people make fun of it all the time… and I DEFY it! Continue Reading…
Super producer Vaushaun “Maestro” Brooks and celebrity photographer Joi Pearson threw a celebrity filled birthday bash for their 1-year old son Brenton a few weeks ago.
Brenton, aka @LilBBreezy on twitter, has only been on this earth a lil over 12 months and he’s already listed amongst the who’s who in Atlanta.
[Sidebar: He probably even has more twitter followers than you! 😆 ]
Like seriously, Brenton’s kiddie party could rival just about any “grown folks” party and was attended by the likes of Toya Carter, Memphitz, DJ Judgemental… and more!
I swear it was like a celebrity filled Super Sweet 12 month celebration!

Last week, I had the distinct honor of being invited to speak to the youth of Sugga’s Industries International, Behind The Scenes in Sports & Entertainment after-school program.
Held at Atlanta’s Turner Middle School, the program provides training to high school students in an effort to assist the sports and entertainment industry in diversifying its audience and talent pool.
Anyone who knows me is quite aware that I’m not a “public” speaking type of girl, so it was initially uncomfortable but because I was talking about something I love to do, the information flowed freely.
We discussed blogging, advertising, event coverage, video editing… just about everything that entails StraightFromTheA.com. Including social networking via Twitter, Facebook, etc…. we even touched on a bit of industry gossip (and you will be pleased to note, I kept it strictly P.G.).
[Sidebar: I almost fainted when told the others that Phaedra was my lawyer and I was at her wedding… you people really do pay attention, huh? 😆 ]
I’d like to take a moment to thank Tiphanie Watson and Suggas for inviting me out to speak to the kids. Hopefully, I shared some insightful information about this crazy world of entertainment blogging.

I always do those “incredible shrinking woman” posts about Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah & Mo’Nique… and they all totally inspired me. Now I can finally put ME in one.
I made a promise to my loyal readers that I would make a video once I lost 50 pounds and I’m proud to keep my promise… Continue Reading…
