Braves Manager Bobby Cox Looking To Retire With A Championship

Oct 7th 2010 | Written by MKRob

Atlanta Braves longtime manager Bobby Cox is looking to finish his 24-year Braves career with a World Series title and the quest begins tonight against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

At age 69, Cox has one thing working against him, no manager has finished a top-100 career with a World Series title. Cox still has the chance to do that after 29 years and the fourth-most wins in Major League history.

Cox will start 16-game winner Derek Lowe against the Giants ace Tim Lincecum, who has emerged as the most dominant pitcher in the National League the last two years.

“He’s a lot different pitcher right now than he was in the first half of the season,” Cox said of Lowe. “He was good in the first half. He’s even better now.” (source)

Cox will need some major help from catcher Brian McCann, who led the Braves in homeruns, first baseman Derrick Lee and rookie sensation Jason Heyward.

Either way you look at it, Bobby Cox is going out in style.

GOOD LUCK BRAVES!!!
