Lifetime’s movie premiere of “Whitney” was a ratings hit for the network, but it seems that not all family members of the late songstress approved of the portrayal and at least one has voiced their disapproval.
Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister in-law and executor of her estate, released a detailed statement expressing her disappointment about the movie and how she was not been properly involved in the making of the movie. ?She even states that she wasn’t even offered a complimentary advanced copy of the film!
Pat also feels ‘somekindaway’ about lifetime’s decision to air the film so close to the anniversary of the?Whitney Houston‘s death which was on Feb. 11, 2012.
Last night was the first airing of LifeTime Television Network’s “Betty & Coretta,” which details how the widows of civil rights icons Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X carried on as single mothers after the assassination of their husbands.
While the daughters of both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King have spoken out against the biopic, stating that the portrayals of their mother’s weren’t quite accurate, it still makes for an entertaining movie.

Actor Samuel L. Jackson celebrated his 63rd (yes SIXTY THIRD!) birthday recently with a party held in NYC.
Jackson is currently performing in ‘The Mountaintop’ alongside Angela Bassett and after a matinee performance of the play he got the mandatory “Happy Birthday” group song from the cast and crew…. and his close friend Reverend Al Sharpton.
Jackson (a graduate of Morehouse College) is an honorary ATLien and he’s been the lone voice responsible for getting Falcons fans on their feet each home game by yelling RISE UP!… now Jackson is joined in the spot by a few more recognizable ATL favorites…
Angela Bassett is joining “ER” for it’s final season.? The veteran actress will play a “tough-as-nails attending physician who is coming back to Chicago after doing tsunami relief work in Indonesia.”? Of course you already?know there will be much drama with Ms. Bassett’s character…it is expected that she will be hiding a troubled past that reveals itself towards the final episode.?? I can see it now…she swings?into town with?an abusive husband and she hides her bruises with cheap make-up and sunglasses…that’s already been done?….oh, my?bad! 😯 ?
