In addition to his passion for music, Usher Raymond, IV is an art fanatic whose name was recently included amongst the six new Woodruff Arts trustees announced this week. Usher, 30, is the only entertainer on the 79-member board, and is its only member with a Web site where one can purchase limited-edition Armani dog tags (benefiting his youth charity).? The center hopes that Usher’s inclusion on the board will assist them in their goal of getting more youngsters interested in the art world. Usher has already joined the Woodruff’s education task force to assist in their efforts:
?I first and foremost would like to give more young people, who wouldn?t otherwise have the means, the opportunity to experience art programming at the Woodruff Arts Center,? he said in an e-mail. ?I also hope to share new ideas that can combine art and service as powerful agents of change in Atlanta.? Usher also recently announced that the new title of his upcoming CD will be “Monster”….no additional details have been released, but the the superstar has been grinding for months now in studios from Vegas to the ATL.? No word on a release date, but from the looks of the title Usher is planning on coming back HARD!??? Can’t wait!
Usher Raymond has decided to joined the legions of twitter maniacs and has officially created his own little twitter account while on the set of his new film:
Hello to the Twitter Nation…I said I wouldn’t do this. I’m on the set. Ashton and Demi did it!! If you can’t beat em join em! Here goes!!!
He’s even been twitpic-ing:
“Here on the set of 5 Killers….I’m headed in now for my first scene with Ashton and Katherine” ~ Monday May 18th
I’ve heard from a very reliable source that Mrs. Raymond is quite a bit peaved about this latest development and doesn’t seem to share in her hubby’s enthusiasm. She feels that Twitter will give “groupie chicks” more immediate access to Usher and she doesn’t like it one bit! Quite surprising since she’s on Twitter morning, noon and night begging for followers… 😕
Usher got his own post so I guess it’s only fair that Tameka gets some shine today too. A friend of mine has a great blog that reveals her secrets to success and longevity in Atlanta’s music scene. She’s seen it all and has shared some of the most outrageous stories of her experiences coupled with what she’s learned from them. One of my favorites is a post she wrote about an experience she had working with Mrs. Usher:
That?s right?Tameka Foster, Glover, Raymond once made me cry on the set of a video for a short lived group called the ATL.? We were already 3 hours behind and she was not allowing the group to get dressed because?hummm?her creative vision AS A WARDROBE STYLIST?was being compromised!? I believe that was the line she gave me!? I was the second assistant director and my SOLE job for the day was to the get the Artists? and the models to set, and of course they?couldn?t get there??if they didn?t have their clothes on! I begged and pleaded with?Tameka?which seemed to only fuel her fire.
‘Tis the season. It’s getting hot and several celebs are getting rid of that extra baggage just in time for summer. Usher Raymond #4 and #5 were spotted on the beach in Malibu a few days ago minus Mommy Tameka, who was still here in the “A”…chillin. Am I the only one who noticed that Mr. Raymond hasn’t been rocking his signature custom designed wedding band? Hmmmm? *scratching head* Could there be trouble in paradise? Sources say Usher and Tameka have been living separate lives for quite some time now and it’s possible that he’s been spending daddy time with lil Cinco in preparation for joint custody arrangements. But you ain’t heard that from me…
You may have already spotted the billboards all around town that features a young, smiling Usher Raymond. I even saw one myself last night as I was rolling down Peachtree Street and posted a twit-pic:
“Billboard says “Be Iconic” and has Usher’s baby pic begreatamerica.org/usher Cute! ” April 29th 8:44pm
Well today the R&B superstar officially unveiled the “Be Iconic” billboards as part of the Boy’s & Girls Club’s “Be Great” campaign:
Five-time Grammy award winner, philanthropist and Boys & Girls Club alumnus Usher today unveiled a new billboard featuring his childhood photo as part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America?s? BE GREAT? campaign. Usher?s theme ? BE ICONIC ? ties to his profile as an award-winning, multi-platinum musical icon and a positive role model. He attended the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga as a young boy. Usher joins the likes of Denzel Washington, Shaquille O?Neal, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Muhammad Ali as part of BGCA?s new advocacy campaign, featuring successful Boys & Girls Club kids and encouraging every American to help young people BE GREAT.
Usher was joined at the ceremony by his mother/manager, Jonnetta Patton, Mark Lazarus (Chairman of the Marketing Committee for BGCA, and President, Media and Marketing for Career Sports & Entertainment), Roxanne Spillett (President and CEO, BGCA) and kids from BGCs and Usher?s New Look Foundation. and nope…there was no sign of Tameka.
