112 is reportedly back in the studio grinding it out for a 2010 reunion album, so it’s only fitting that I do a flashback to their days at Puffy…P.Diddy…Diddy’s Bad Boy label.
Their first single, “Only You” featured The Notorious B.I.G. and Ma$e and was a Top 20 in both the Pop and R&B charts. 112’s self-titled debut album hit platinum sales and is still in rotation on the “A”pod today. That 1st Biggie line always gets me:
Je-sus the notorious just/Please us with your lyrical thesis
After a five year hiatus and speculation that they had broken up, at least three of the four members of the R&B group 112 have reunited to record a follow up to their 2005 release Pleasure & Pain, which went gold in the U.S.
Group member Quiness “Q” Parker broke the news earlier this week via his Twitter page:
Its good to see that they’ve worked out their differences. If you recall, Michael Keith formerly accused two of his fellow bandmates, Q Parker and Daron Jones, of taking unfair shares of royalty checks. Keith revealed in a 2008 interview:
I’m not sure what the status is of the other three members, but myself, I am no longer in 112. I had to leave because I found out that a certain member of the group took my publishing check.
It was made clear that it was intended for myself and another member, Slim [Marvin Scandrick].
At that time, Mike was also asked about a 112 reunion where he stated, “I’m going to be honest with you and say I’ve grown and lived long enough to never say never, so if that was to happen in the future I will welcome it under the right circumstances.”
A new single from Slim (of 112) called “Don’t It Feel Good” featuring Maino has just leaked and made it’s way into my inbox. Slim’s voice has always stood out to me and most people slept on his last cd. “Love’s Crazy,” which was way better than I thought it would be. I think this new song is from Slim’s upcoming project “Cruise Control” which is currently in development.
It was family fun day last night as Eddie Murphy’s new film “Imagine That” premiered in Atlanta. Lil Scrappy, Diamond and their two cuties as well as several other A-town celebs and their families were spotted at the theatre. Steve Stoute, Bob Whitfield, Tameka Foster Raymond, Stephon Marbury (Boston Celtics), Jason Richardson (Phoenix Suns) and more attended the screening.
Tameka Foster-Ramond and a few of her kids along with her mom and Lil Cinco.
I know you guys all heard the rumors of Usher filing divorce in an Atlanta court yesterday. Well apparently no papers have been filed….in Atlanta…..yet. The separation rumors are true but who knows? Maybe they can work it out. *shrugs*
I so sorry y’all…I’ve been holding on to this Slim of 112 interview for about 2 weeks now. *sigh* I admit it…I suck! But he and I had a lil sit down at The Grape in Atlantic Station (mmmmm Muscato!) and we chopped it up for a while. Slim’s new CD “Love’s Crazy” is on heavy rotation on the “A” pod and “So Fly” is my dayum personal theme song. He’s such a cool dude and is definitely Straight from the A…Cleveland Ave to be exact!
Slim has come a long way from the lead singer of 112. He has his own record label and now he’s calling the shots. Although he kind of disappointed me when he told me that he doesn’t speak to any of his former group members, he did say he has no ill feelings towards any of them and he’s sure they’re all doing big things.
I jumped on TWITTER and asked my followers if they had any questions for him:
babajee@ATLien question for slim: when did you realize that your unique voice, could possibly get you a record deal?
wmicahw@ATLien didn’t know he was that close with faith evans until reading her book, what are his thoughts on “notorious” n the bad boy situation
pooda@ATLien would he consider a collab w Keri Hilson? I think their voices would mesh well
Slim answered just about everything and he held nothing back. (BTW…he’s not on twitter yet, but I’m working on it!) He talked at length about his feelings about being on Bad Boy, Diddy’s involvement in the group’s success and we even touched on his love life. Slim also revealed that that the “Heels On” (Remix) feat. Deezbo and Ron Browz is getting mad love these days on the airwaves.
Check out the full videotaped interview and also listen to the “Heels on” remix under the cut: (more…)
