Just one day shy of this year’s historical election, Senator Barack Obama’s grandmother has passed away:
Madelyn Payne Dunham, Senator Barack Obama’s maternal grandmother, died in Honolulu early this morning. She was 86 and had been suffering from cancer. Dunham helped raise the Democratic presidential nominee and frequently was cited in his speeches as an inspiration. Two weeks ago Obama took a day off from his campaign to visit the ailing woman he called Toot — a form of Tutu, which means “grandparent” in Hawaiian.
Dunham died between 3 and 4 a.m. Hawaii time, with Obama’s half sister Maya Soetoro-Ng at her side. Media outlets reported that Obama learned of the death shortly after 8 a.m. today in Jacksonville, Fla.
A statement released this afternoon by Obama and Soetoro-Ng said, “She was the cornerstone of our family and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.”
“It’s very, very sad, because we all hoped that she would be able to sustain her strength through Election Day itself,” said Hawaii Democratic Representative Neil Abercrombie, a family friend. “She passed away confident that he would succeed … His strength, his calm demeanor that characterized him in these last weeks and last days — this quiet strength that come across so clearly — that comes from his grandmother; there’s no question about that. It’s her great legacy. (Source)
The Democratic Presidential nominee paid an emotional tribute to his late Grandmother today during a rally in Charlotte, NC:
Young Jeezy took advantage of Advance Voting in Georgia and cast his vote last week. Jeezy stood in line for 2 hours in Adamsville and made his VOTE count. He also is volunteered at Obama’s Austell Campaign office, where he worked at the phone bank, making calls to undecided voters:
Stephenie Lemon from Georgia Youth For Obama / Hip Hop for Obama says: “The volunteers at the Austell Obama Campaign Office would like to thank Young Jeezy for coming out to volunteer with us. We were so impressed to see him personally making phone calls to other supporters and his efforts made a big impact with our young volunteers. We know that as a national music artist he has a very busy schedule but it speaks volume to his commitment to elect Barack Obama the 44th President of the United States.”
This year is monumental and the importance can’t be ignored. Everyone’s doing their part to ensure a smooth victory for Barack Obama. I was grinning from ear to ear when I saw Jeezy putting in work! Jeezy did it. So can you! Get out and VOTE!
I’ve never wrote about The Real Housewives of Atlanta because I was trying to be impartial and give the girls a chance to shine on their own. My first impression of the show was “Hell Naw!” but now I love it and watch EVERY week. I’ve met a few of the housewives and really like them as people, so watching the show is so much more enjoyable now.
Bravo calls the show “An up-close and personal look at life in Hotlanta, The Real Housewives of Atlanta follows five glamorous Southern belles — DeShawn, Kim, Lisa, NeNe, and Sheree — as they balance motherhood, demanding careers and a fast-paced social calendar, and shows what life is like in the most exclusive areas of Atlanta” and I would have to say I agree with them. Their choice of housewives is spot on. I mean…who would want to watch some boring chick chillin in Decatur somewhere? Call it ghettofabulous, a hot mess, or anything else you like….but this show is funny azzz hell!
I’ve been getting sneak peeks of the shows and thought I’d start sharing them with you. This week, Sheree hosts an “adult sleepover” and surprises the guests with a pole dancing lesson. I’m still laughing at the image of her face down on the pole! Watch out now! Sheree may be coming soon to a Strip Club near you… Peep the clips: Continue Reading…
Sasha has been very busy promoting the CD and is mad flexible as you can see in the following promo pic:
In related news, I spotted Sasha Fierce on Access Hollywood the other day discussing cooking and kids. In the clip of her upcoming 1 hour TVOne interview with Tatyana Ali, Bey is reminded about an old Access Hollywood video where she lists the top 3 things she wants to accomplish before turning 30. This list included winning an oscar, getting married, and having children. When Tatyani runs down the list, the look on Bey’s face is priceless! To refresh her memory, they ran the old clip and afterwards Mrs. Carter laughs and replies:
“You know, I still would love to win an Oscar,” she said. “The kids, I don’t know… In three years, maybe.”
