Singer R. Kelly has been released from the balls and chains of marriage and is free to surf the net for minors mingle with the single chicks!  Most of us are way to old for the former R&B superstar, but hey…maybe he’s changed his ways.  At any rate, for those of you who care….Kelz is back on the market.

The couple, who had been married for 11 years, have two daughters and a son together. “The parties have reached an amicable resolution concerning all issues related to their marriage, and will share joint custody of their three children,” their Chicago-based lawyers said in a joint statement. “The details of this agreement will remain confidential and the family requests that their privacy be respected during this time.”

Despite this “amicable” split, in the fall of 2005, Andrea Kelly, a former backup dancer for the Chicago-based R&B star, went to court to obtain an emergency restraining order against the singer, claiming physical abuse, harassment, stalking and interfering with her personal liberty. She wrote in her petition that she didn’t want any contact with Kelly “at all, by any means.” At the time, Andrea had moved out of the home the couple shared, and R. Kelly released a statement saying, “My wife and I had a heated argument, and we are now in the process of working it out.” The protection order was later rescinded.

The initial split came less than a year after Kelly saw charges dropped against him in Florida for having sex with an underage girl, but amid a long-running court case in Chicago in which Kelly was accused of child pornography based on a widely-distributed videotapethat allegedly showed the singer having sex with an under age girl. He was acquitted of those charges last year.

Kelly was also briefly married to then 15-year-old singer Aaliyah for five months, but that marriage was reportedly annulled in February 1995.

R. Kelly hit up BET last night to speak about his child pornography trial.  Kelz looked AMAZING…like he just came from some deserted island or something.  He finally got his “grown man” on and has cut off the braids!  He also states that it’s the first…and the LAST time that he’s gonna talk about it so take notes.

In this half-hour special, Kelly sits down with BET host and acclaimed journalist Toure in Philadelphia for his first and possibly final interview to discuss his long legal battle leading up to the not-guilty verdict. The verdict came six years after the R&B superstar was first charged with videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl who prosecutors believe may have been as young as 13 at the time. By answering the hard-hitting questions surrounding his recent case, career, critics and more, Kelly hopes to close this major chapter in his life-once and for all.

The verdict is in.  It took only two days for a jury to decide R. Kelly’s fate in his child-pornography trial. Their decision: NOT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS! The prosecution’s case was described as “weak” and the jury did not believe the witnesses.

Some of that doubt came from the questionable motives of the people who came forward to ID the people on the tape, including the girl’s aunt Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards, whom the singer’s lawyers described as bitter over a bad business deal with the singer, and former Kelly mistress Lisa Van Allen, whom defense attorneys accused of attempting to extort $300,000 from them in order not to testify. Kelly’s team said there had been a conspiracy afoot to create a fake sex tape, and these women were suspect.  (More)

It’s almost over y’all.  After all the hoopla and even an Atlanta connection to the case, R. Kelly has decided not to take the stand in his own defense.

In a massive development in the case, the “World’s Greatest” singer announced to the judge that he would decline to take the stand, saying simply, “I decided not to testify.”

Perhaps it’s because there’s nothing left to say… after all, Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan made it clear that jurors will be able to review the sex tape once they begin deliberations. (Source)
