DefJam/BoBO (Best of Both Offices) set up a conference call between Kanye West a few hundred blog sites yesterday. Kanye discussed his upcoming release, 808s & Heartbreak. The album’s released date has been pushed up to November 24th and a tour may be planned for June. Kanye adressed his decision to venture into singing and leaked a new song that features Young Jeezy:
Today we’re about to drop one of the records that everybody’s talking about, “Amazing” featuring Jeezy. It’s definitely one of those joints in the club that’s gonna go crazy, that’s gonna send it up like with did with “Swagger”, like we did with “Put On”, and like we always do it this time. This is what my job is. My job is to give y’all s**t that has the model b***hes running crazy, and has n***as bobbing their heads crazy like “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’” and “Flashin’ Lights”. Of course I always hit them with a curve to start off with. Y’all know that “Heartless”, that’s straight n***a s**t. The whole album you can rap over at the end of the day, but I’m trying to put on those Phil Collins’ melodies. I feel even if I’m harmonizing, it’s still from a n***a perspective. I ain’t making no, ‘girl, your nails are the perfect nails, you the perfect-’ naw, this ain’t none of that. This is still that rap perspective music with melody.
You can’t ever say that Kanye West doesn’t try new things! In his new video for “Heartless,” Mr. West enters a world of animation. There are quite a few cameos from futuristic superstars, the Jetson’s, who are prominently featured on artwork in Kanye’s cartoon home. I hate to say it folks, but Kanye’s singing has started to grow on me. I know you like it too…don’t front!
Kanye also explained his decision to turn from hip-hop to pop in an interview with a Singapore news outlet. In his usual arrogant swag, Ye explained how his new style of music should be described as “pop-art” and that his goal is to be the greatest performer of this generation. He gives much love to his homie T-Pain in the interview and even shows off his singing skills without the vocoder. When asked about his experiences with the media, Kanye quickly pointed out the power of the blog:
My relationship with the media? O.K…That’s why I love having a blog because it’s like, BAM! I can say exactly what I want, the amount of stuff I want…and then it just goes out to everywhere else, it may end up on CNN.
That’s the greatest thing about having a blog. Before that…you would have to go through the media.
Dayum! Kanye’s just letting all the good secrets out these days. Peep the full interview: (more…)
I dunno bout this one. The performance was OK and I’m sure it was spectacular in person, but the studio version of the song just doesn’t really do it for me. Maybe if I listen to it 50-eleven more times it’ll grow on me…
Kanye West closed out the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards last night by performing his first single from his upcoming “A Good A*s Job” project. Billed as an “Explosive Finish” to the awards, the song, called “Love Lockdown” has Kanye doing a T-Pain by converting to a Rapper turnt Sanger and using the auto-tune feature on his voice. It was definitely something different for Kanye! If you missed it or just want to see it again…check out the video: (more…)
Kanye didn’t even bother to show up for his video for “Champion”…instead he sent a muppet to do a man’s job. Fortunately…the muppet showed out! Ha! Love it. Props to Kermit & Miss Piggy for letting their adopted son play Kanye in the flick!
