Kanye West‘s Billboard Music Awards Performance was mostly mute Sunday night when it was highly censured by ABC.
Many assumed that the eccentric rapper may have purposely over-utlized a few curse words in an effort to disrespect live television… resulting in his entire performance being bleeped out.
Apparently… that wasn’t the case, and in a statement issued about the incident, Kanye expenses disappointment about his performance being ‘grossly over-censured’ and says he faced ‘unwarranted censorship’ for words like ‘black leather jeans’.

In a statement released to the media, Kanye’s camp states:
Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards. Non-profane lyrics such as ”with my leather black jeans on” were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented.
‘It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against. ‘
Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned.
