Atlanta Hairstylists Derek J & Miss Lawrence = Bravo’s ‘Fashion Queens’…. [BTS PHOTOS]

It’s no secret that celebrity hairstylist Derek J is one of my all time favorite people and I’m happy to note that he joins the cast of Bravo’s new 3-part fashion series, Fashion Queens.

In the new show, Derek sits on a panel of fashion judges, consisting of his fellow ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ friend Miss Lawrence Washington, as well as Fashion Maven Bevy Smith.

Eli Lehrer, VP of Development and Original Programming for Bravo, explained how they came up with the new concept, stating:

Bravo viewers have loved watching Derek J and Miss Lawrence tell it like it is for years on our air, so when we saw the opportunity to pair them with Bevy Smith, whose fashion point of view we’ve always admired, we jumped at the opportunity.

We think it’s going to make for a totally unique, deliciously outrageous take on the week in fashion.

Derek J and Miss Lawrence have been keeping it real for 5 seasons of RHOA, providing comic relief, a listening ear, juicy gossip, and fabulous hairstyles to some of your favorite Georgia peaches.

Lawrence started out as Sheree’s Whitfield’s hairstylist during season 1 of the hit show and has so far outlasted Whitfield, the person who initiated his reality show career!

The same can also be said for Derek J, who started out during the first season of RHOA prepping Kim Zolciak’s wigs and moved to certified ‘gay hubby’ status by rocking his pumps at all of the housewives’ events.

If you recall, this isn’t the first time the pair has hosted a Bravo show together. In fact, it was the success of last season’s “Hairstylists Tell All” that sparked this latest opportunity.

The first show aired last Sunday evening (March 17) and has been repeating on Bravo after accumulating over 800,000 views during it’s first airing.

[Sidebar: Derek J & Miss Lawrence’s brand new show even beat out Nene’s New Normal in the ratings, which only got about 700,000]

The remaining two shows are scheduled to air Sunday, March 24 and Sunday, March 31.

  I saw a piece of Sunday. Derek and Lawrence did good but Bev was boring and was outshined by the Queens on set. Lawrence face was beat to the gwads!! Derek fashion on the red carpets and appearances is very questionable so what makes him an authority on fashion is really beyond me.

  Let me first off say that I’m not a hater, just giving my opinion. That being said you know this ain’t gonna be pretty! The show was garbage. It looked like it belonged on BET and was poor knock off of Fashion Police. The editing was the worst. Bev is usually good on TV, but hosting a tv show is out of her lane. She wasn’t natural and was trying TOO hard! Bev is better at commentating than hosting, and needs more media training. Which brings me to Derick and Lawrence. They are cool on RHOA but they are also gonna have to brush up on their tv skills. Their punchlines were weak. I agree that Funky Diva would be better cause she’s quick witted. And Derick chill on the too tight clothes girrrr. I know it’s only a 3 episode deal, but to make the show better they are gonna have to bring in a comic relief. Maybe like Somore. Also bring in a experienced tv personality to carry the show (Claudia Jordan?), and a housewife with style should be apart of the show too. Note to Lawrence and Derick. I have no problem with gays but you should tone down the sexual convo. People are already believe that black gay men are overly sexual, don’t perpetuate that stereotype. Keep it fashion, and keep it movin!

I’ll be glad when this trend of emphasizing only the most extreme of all groups (blacks, Italians, hip hop artists, homosexuals, "wives" of all variety, etc) passes. We will never reach a point of mutually respecting each other or living in harmony until everybody stops selling out and allowing their uniquness to be pimped out as a novelty act.

  Lawrence and Derrick were good. I can’t with Bev though her lines seem forced and not natural. She throws the Chemistry off. They need to replace her ASAP and they will have a hit on their hands…replacing her with Dineva would be ideal because she will bring the comedic aspect to the show naturally. Just my two cents…

However I feel if Bravo wanted the BOMB show with even better ratings and a show that could be giving 6 to 12 episodes they shouldnt enlisted Funky Dineva & Dwight…those (2) are naturally talented and hilarious….OMG those 2 are the funniest and realiest to me…Like Funky Dineva always says " Im speaking for the people..asking what they people wanan know…love him..and Dwight is gonna give you class, truth and humor..

  I love Derek’s color choices…this show is a disgrace…and this is coming from a gay man. The last thing the confused kids of America need to see are two gay men wearing women’s clothes and pumps on a format like this. And Bev Smith looks sooo out of place in this lineup. Also hasn’t anyone told Miss Lawrence she is IN DIRE NEED of a nose job? And some teeth whitening? Boo that look is failed like a 5th grader who got left back.

  The show was absolutely horrible… Miss Lawrence and Derek J are no fashion icons they look terrible in everything that they put on. Miss Bev cannot dress to save her life while the show was on googled them all and they did not have one good fashion pic. The only reason they look halfway descent for the show was because BRAVO dressed them. Can the show its the worst thing on tv right now!!!!!!!
