Hundley posed for the mugshot above after he allegedly slapped a fellow passenger’s toddler and called the child a racial slur during a flight.
According to an FBI court affidavit, the incident occurred on Delta Flight 721, which was set to land at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Feb. 8th and Hundley now faces federal assault charges.

Bennett, who was seated in row 28 alongside Hundley, told FBI agents that she tried to get her son to stop crying when Hundley “told her to shut that [‘N word’] baby up.”
“Ms. Bennett stated that Joe Rickey Hundley then turned around and slapped [the baby] in the face with an open hand, which caused the juvenile victim to scream even louder,” court documents said.
The 33-year-old Minneapolis mother also said the slap caused a scratch below her son’s right eye. That’s when fellow travelers stepped in.
“After Joe Rickey Handley struck [the child], Ms. Bennett received assistance from several people on the plane, including male passenger Todd Wooten,” court documents said.
According to TheSmokingGun, Hundley was charged this week with simple assault, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Atlanta. If convicted of the misdemeanor count, he faces a maximum of one year in prison.
Hundley also has a previous record. According to Virginia state court records, he was arrested in 2007 following a fight with his girlfriend. Initially charged with simple assault, carrying a concealed weapon, and public intoxication, Hundley subsequently pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor assault rap.
If allegations are true, how should Hundley be punished?
Saying the “N” word while slapping a baby sounds like a “hate” crime to me…
