Who Was Whitney Houston?
While growing up in New Jersey, Whitney Houston was close to both of her big brothers, Gary and Michael. Since his sister’s death, Michael, who many in the family called Whitney’s twin, hasn’t spoken publicly. Now, Michael reveals how he introduced Whitney to drugs in the ’80s, long before Whitney married Bobby Brown. Watch as he discusses the guilt he lives with every day.
In 2009, Whitney Houston sat down with Oprah to discuss her battle with addiction, her troubled marriage to Bobby Brown and more. In what would be her last interview with Oprah, Whitney recounted the day her mother, Cissy Houston, staged an intervention and got her to go to rehab. Cissy describes that day to Oprah and reveals why it was difficult for her to watch that 2009 interview.

“I do believe her life would have turned out differently,” Houston writes. “It would have been easier for her to get sober and stay sober. Instead she was with someone who, like her, wanted to party. To me, he never seemed to be a help to her in the way she needed.”

Houston said she has no contact with Brown and didn’t see any reason to, not even concerning her granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina.
She reaffirmed her comments in the book that Whitney Houston would have been better off without him. “How would you like it if he had anything to do with your daughter?” she asked.
Brown is portrayed as childish and impulsive, hot tempered and jealous of his wife’s success. Cissy Houston describes a 1997 incident when Whitney sustained a “deep cut” on her face while on a yacht with Brown in the Mediterranean.
Whitney insisted it was an accident; Brown had slammed his hand on a table, breaking a plate. A piece of china flew up and hit Whitney, requiring surgery to cover any possible scar. The injury was minor, the effects possibly fateful.
“She seemed sadder after that, like something had been taken away from her,” Houston writes.
Brown and Whitney Houston divorced in 2007, after 15 years of marriage. When she learned that her daughter was leaving Brown, Cissy Houston was “extremely relieved” and “thanking God so much I’m sure nobody else could get a prayer in to Him.”

Cissy Houston writes that sometimes she hears a doorbell ring and thinks it’s Whitney, or sees a vase in a different place and wonders if her daughter is around. Some nights, Cissy Houston wakes up crying, not sure at first where she is.
“But then I get up out of bed, wipe my eyes, wash my face, and lie back down to my sleep. Because that is all I can do,” she writes. “I am so grateful to God for giving me the gift of 48 years with my daughter. And I accept that He knew when it was time to take her.”

I love Cissy and still play Whitney’s videos from time to time cause I will always miss her. I think Cissy shared the last feelings she cares to say about the life and loss of her daughter. As painful as it must be, only a mother whoes lost a child whether young,old,star or not understands what she is going through. I never knew she had another brother. Guessed all sentences with "We" as kids referred to Whit and Gary. Hope only the best for Cissy. She did her very best.

From studying her death, it is quite obvious what her reason of dying was: homicide. Manner: drowning. You cannot accidentally drown in less than a foot of water. Someone has to push you head in the water. When there is water in the lungs, that is indication she was breathing at the time her head was put under water. The only question, however, is was she lethargic. The way her eyes were shut, probably so. This indicates she fell asleep under water – which explains why she did not fight for air. So i’m not understanding your drug comment.
I never believed Bobby was the culprit in her introduction to drugs, people get caught up with the MIS representation of these artists.. Ummm no, I’m from the Newark the area, and Whitney was not a "Newark hood chick". Whitney was born in Newark in 1963, and after the riots in 1967, they moved to East Orange. Whitney went to private schools all her life and graduated from an all girls private high school, she was quite sheltered actually. The middle brother, who was the wild child, was riding on Whitney’s success and coat tail, introduced her to the drugs, alot of folks from Jersey been knew this and i’m glad it’s coming out. Also, I do not believe that Robyn and Whitney were lovers, BUT I do feel that Cissy didn’t like the relationship because it could have had a bad affect on Whitney’s career, because Robyn is a lesbian.

Thank you, her own Mother said that Whitney was not from no hood. She said that during her morning interview with Al Roker. Whitney only started claiming hoodlife when black folks started ridiculing her for being "whitewashed". Della Reese told Larry Elder a black conservative radio personality that some in the Houston family felt she married Bobby, because of people perceiving her as not being black enough.

I believe Whitney had some pretty high standards she had to live up to, from her church upbringing, to her mother’s standards to what was expected of her from the industry. Had she just been allowed to live without hiding or putting up a facade and the continuous pressures and been allowed to live and love as she wished and sing, she may not have turned to drugs to dull the pain. She may have used anyway and been able to get past it had she been accepted for who she really was…just maybe she may still be here. Not blaming her mother but I would love and accept my kids whomever they chose to love. I stayed on my son about drugs and now he’s in the military living his life…clean. I even drug tested him occasionally. Yes as mothers we do the best we can and the best we know how and sometimes and second guess and wander if it was enough, or too much….RIP Nippy and Ms Cissy, I hope she finds peace…

i too believe there is more to whit’s death than is coming to life. her body guard was instructed not to leave her in the tub and they never let her take baths, but this time she was allowed to have a bath? not only that but when you fall asleep in the tub the water is not that high and when you do fall asleep, you wake right up when and if water does get in your nose i don’t care how high you are. if you ask me, something went horribly wrong like with pac and big…someone didn’t want whit to tell the truth about something..whit was upset that morning and was calling for her manager all day and her manager never came, even though she was her boss and breadwinner. something aint right here….rest in peace child of God…you will be missed truly missed!

I never believed those lies told on Bobby. He could have blasted everyone a long time a go but he didnt and was the fall guy for many years. Whitney came into the industry with a drug history. She was a multi platinum artist with money and fame and the industry crowd associated with this life style usually parties hard and does more drugs than you can imagine. We see them poised polished and dressed the part but thats good marketing. Most times regardless of their race these artist are dressed up gangsters.We label them wholesome and squeeky clean based on what we see. Imaging and stylist do wonders.

Whitney first recorded with Chaka Khan at 15 in 1978 singing in the background for "I’m Every Woman" and was not using drugs then. Cissy has GOT to stop blaming Bobby for Whitney’s indiscretions. Yes, Bobby had his ways but Whitney did to and she was NOT a saint. They BOTH had an addiction problem. You could see on Being Bobby Brown that they were gone both of them I believe that’s when she took stock of it and bounced. He did manage to stay sober until the deaths of the 3 people that were closest to him. Mom and Dad in 2011 and Nippy in 2012. Whitney sang at one and came to the other. Despite their history and breakup she would’ve been mortified that those children didn’t attend her home going and that he was treated so shabbily.
Yep! Regardless of whether or not Cissy approved, the fact still remains that Whitney LOVED Bobby and ALL of his kids. She treated them like they were her own. The treatment that Bobby and his kids received during at the funeral was just disgusting. And what’s even worse is knowing that the true culprit responsible for her addiction was probably sitting on the front row right next to their mama!

Why does Cissy have so much hate in her heart for Bobby? The truth has finally come out after decades of blaming him for getting her hooked on drugs. Whitney was hooked on drugs long before she met Bobby. Randal Cunningham ended their relationship because of her drug use. I don’t buy Cissy’s story about the incident on the yacht as her reason for not liking Bobby. In her mind she felt Bobby was beneath them. Not a Christian thing to say, so she uses excuses to justify her hate for him. The whole family is guilty for her drug use. Her brother, her SIL, her mother. They all do. We all have things we have to answer to and they will answer for all they did, didn’t do, lies, blaming of others and cover ups for the all mighty dollar. They didn’t care what Whitney did as long as the money was coming in.

She was point blank, moving on. After the interview Cissy should have taken off her mic and dropped it on the floor. I love Cissy interviews. that elder has spunk. Oprah did a fabulous job on this interview. An Cissy was open about her feelings. I was impressed. It was sad to see the old videos of Whitney when she still had the voice.
That Arista image machine was fierce. Whitney said herself she started in the hood that don’t mean she lived there but that’s where it started. My heart goes out to Cissy but pointing the fingers won’t bring her back and ultimately the choices we make are our own. It’s still hard to believe that she’s gone but I choose to remember the good deeds and musical legacy.

I will never speak ill of the dead but facts are facts-Whitney was older and more experienced in this industry than Bobby, please stop acting like Bobby ran the show.
