Wendy Williams issued a swift diss to singer Beyoncé yesterday on her morning talk show. (December 6, 2012).
Being that it’s not the first time Wendy has gone in on the superstar diva, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise. If you recall, Wendy publicly questioned Beyonce’s baby bump back when she was pregnant and even did a live on-air demonstration.

I am a Beyoncé fan… I’m gonna watch her upcoming documentary because fortunately one of the TVs in our kitchen has closed captioning so I’ll be able to understand what she says.
You know Beyoncé can’t talk. She sounds like she has a fifth grade education.

Beyonce isn’t the greatest speaker but her career isn’t being an English teacher or Public Speaker.
Just because a person isn’t articulate doesn’t make them uneducated. I know people who have degrees and aren’t the greatest speakers but not once have I thought "Oh they’re dumb because there speech isn’t up to par to what I think it should be". A lot of people aren’t great at public speaking or get really nervous when speaking in front of a camera. Have you ever noticed that when Beyonce talks during her performances, she seems more confident/secure in her speech. Performing is her comfort zone and I think she’s just socially awkward when she’s off stage, which is the case with A LOT of entertainers(Singers,Actors,Dancers). Entertainers go into another mind frame whenever they are performing because it’s their passion but yet when they’re off stage it’s like where did the personality/confidence go?

There are many types of intelligence, and while Beyonce may not be passing anybody’s SAT, she clearly has a business intelligence to be envied. There is no need to get worked up into defense mode over what one stranger-to-you’s opinion is of another stranger-to-you.

She doesn’t have any business intelligence. Her dad and Jay-Z were/are the business intelligence behind her. She wasn’t making nan business deal with that speech. Someone with business intelligence knows how important speech communication is, hence the reason why Jay-Z and Matthew Knowles do not sound stupid like her.
Complements to some of what you said. I know many people (educated) who’s diction (speaking) IMO makes them sound uneducated, but have read reports or other papers by some of these same individuals and would have never thought, "this came from that". I quickly learned that speaking and/or writing diction do not always mirror for each individual.
Regarding Beyonce, her southern drawl is thick, but, I personally have never heard her speak anything unintelligible enough, that would require closed captioning. To me, Wendy crossed the line with that part of the comment. Wendy never spoke of her "limited vocabulary" as others here have. She said, "Beyonce can’t talk". I took that to mean, that what she hears come out of Beyonce’s mouth is mumbo jumbo to the point that Wendy doesn’t understand what Beyonce is saying, which will require her to turn the closed captioning on the kitchen t.v. during the documentary.

Beyonce should just be categorized as a foreigner trying to speak English. She is a hood rat at the core and you can tell she talks like a hood rat at home because when it comes time to speak in public she’s looking for the words to say and it comes out sounding like broken English. Just like if we all tried to speak Japanese, we would have to stop and think about the words first to make sure we had the right word, then speak. Proper English is her second language and she can’t speak it well because she doesn’t practice it. Plain and simple.
But look at the people who look up to her. Young girls. She’s teaching them that all you need to do is look good, get a rapper husband, become a singer, and you will be just like her. It has not a thing to do with being from Texas, and it’s not even because she’s country. I have family in Tx and they are very educated and articulate. I’m a southern girl and I know I speak well-so the fact remains that Beyonce is just dumb as hell and it shows when she speaks. I bet Jay has better convos with Blue Ivy. And after "superstar" practice she should have hit the books with Kelly, Solange, and Letoya-they speak very well.
I am not a Wendy Williams fan because I feel like she is immature and way too old to be having this kind of a talk show that disses other people. But I agree with her on this one. I’ve said since the very beginning, way back in 2001 when I heard Beyonce talk for the first time on 106 & Park that she was VERY slow and inarticulate. Whenever you say something to someone and it takes them a few seconds to process what you said, then respond, something is off. You can always tell when someone didn’t finish high school. I also believe this is the reason Beyonce stays in hiding. She knows she is not a good speaker. But why not just take some Toastmasters classes? That right there proves how slow she is, because this is a solvable problem. If you’re going to be in the public eye, it doesn’t hurt to groom yourself for the public first. Do you think the Queen was going to send Prince Williams’ new basic "commoner" wife out in public before she got some kind of royal grooming first? Hell no. She had to be taught everything prior to dealing with the public. It’s all about presentation. Beyonces has the looks down, but when she speaks, those looks dwindle away and you can tell where she comes from. Her mother is this way as well. I’ve seen Tina on numerous occasions trying to sell stuff on HSN and its a horrible presentation. I had to turn the channel. And I really wanted to buy something from her too, but couldn’t listen to that. Needless to say, she is no longer on there. One would think that when you enter into the entertainment business that they would want to improve their speech communication skills and diction because they know they are going go get interviewed at some point. My teacher in high school told our entire class that communication and speech is key if you want people to take you serious, especially if you’re black because they all think we speak street slang or we just don’t know how to talk. Have you noticed that most athletes can play ball but when they speak I just cringe and it’s such an embarrassment and turnoff. I often correct my nieces and nephews because I let them know first hand that they will not say "mo, flo, doe" and all that other mess in our house or around me. I will correct them very quickly and so far they have gotten better with their communication skills. There are three people who I love to hear speak because they speak very articulate is Oprah, Robin Givens, Suze Orman.

Will you stop already. There are several reasons why Beyonce speaks the way she does. 1. She was very shy and solitary when she was young, she didn’t get very much practice in speech as a child. The reason she was so lonely was because she was bullied and often left alone because she had fairer skin and hair. 2. She filters/thinks about what she says before she says it in order to make sure what she says is the best thing to say in accordance to the question. 3. The southern dialect She’s also not a bad influence, she actually went back to school to earn her G.E.D several years ago (earned my respect there). She is also not dumb, you will have no idea how great of a musician she is unless you study vocal pedagogy. She is matched by no other in her virtuosity at the moment.
