Kenya Moore of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is really making the rounds on the promo circuit!
Just last week, the former Miss Noxema Miss USA hit up The Wendy Williams Show where she discussed her “bad skin” and her beef with fellow RHOA newbie Porsha Stewart.

The former Miss Clearasil Miss USA recently spoke with TheGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, where she revealed her take on being labeled the “mean girl,” as well as her growing fondness for RHOA veteran/NBC actress Nene Leakes.

During the interview, Witherspoon asks Moore the question: “You and Nene are both actresses can you see yourself possibly collaborating?”
Moore, who is an accomplished actress and film producer (as well as a Miss UltraSheen Cosmetics Miss USA title holder), seems to have a very soft spot in her heart for Leakes. She responds with her desire to one day work the the superstar housewife turned “actress”, stating

Michelle, I like your site, I really do, but aren’t you going a bit overboard with the distasteful comments about Kenya? You’re coming off quite juvenile and it almost appears like jealousy. You have to give the woman her props, she was the SECOND BLACK MISS USA EVER! And up to that point you only had Vanessa Williams/Suzzette Charles (Miss America 1984), Debby Turner (Miss America 1990), Marjorie Vincent (Miss America 1991), and Carole Gist (Miss USA 1990) who were totle holders and Kenya’s victory was even more poignant because she was a dark skinned woman.
No she isn’t and about her title….The way she has conducted herself thus far isn’t very representative of Miss USA and what it stands for. Let’s talk about her now and not her then…. yeah she won and kudos for that but that’s all I got for Ms Kenya.
You are so right. Her conduct attracts negative comments but even more magnified because SHE chooses to reference her "old irrelevant to most" title. AND she PRECLUDES that with disclaimer that she didn’t win on congeniality. I’d think anyone winning A title would be judged on character. And at this point in her life, she should have something more substantial than a dusty crown and (as Portia describes it) "satchel" to show for it. Okay, so she’s been filmed in a couple of D flicks and men mag pics which are irrelevant to one wanting relevance. I can tell that she’s educated and will hope that this is an act. But if she’s serious and proves this is not an act, well then she’s every negative thing to the public eye that she’s chosen to portray herself as.
I’ve asked this before and I’m gonna ask it again. Isn’t all that nudity and half naked stuff she did in magazines and her X-rated films against pageantry rules? When recent pageant contestants were found to be caught up in that stuff, like topless photos, they were demonized, disqualified, etc. It seems like X-rated D films are way worse than posing for Playboy like Vanessa did. And Playboy is way more tasteful than some of those videos and magazines I saw Kenya in. At least Playboy is a legit magazine. Why hasn’t Kenya’s crown been taken away for her raunchiness? And wasn’t Carrie Prejean demonized and damn near kicked out of the competition just for saying she did not believe in gay marriage? Why do these rules stand for all other contestants but not Kenya?
I didn’t know that many black women won the title. I need to brush up on my Miss America/USA pageant history. I stopped watching that stuff in the 80′s.

These reality shows are so damn scripted that it’s hard to take whatever they say serious. I highly doubt that Kenya is that much of a bitch in everyday life because someone would have given her a Jean Claude Van Damme beat down or put her six feet under by now. Playing herself indeed with the HOPES of coming up. It’s one thing to admire someones hustle but she is taking things to a new level. I guess her guy Walt got the memo since he has been spotted around town with other women…

And even this script that she’s written for herself is supposed to be backed by a sob story where every negative thing she does can be blamed on her mother. Nearly 1/4 to 1/3 of Black women and men grew up in grandmom’s, aunt’s homes or other means. Didn’t win no prizes and eventually excelled because of realization the prize was life and opportunity. And if they do win a notable prize it’s merit should be on character and how they positively reach back to help others.
I understand where you all are coming from, but I just ask that you all not "drink the juice". Kenya is playing the role of the "bad girl" on the show. She is picking up where Nene left off to make a name for herself. If she were boring, she wouldn’t have been chosen for the show, so therefore she’s "acting" this way to garner attention. And people are calling her title irrelevant, but no matter what, she will always be a Miss USA title holder, like Carl Lewis will be referred to as an Olympic Gold Medalist and Whitney Houston as a Grammy Award winning singer. Although I earned my Master’s ten years ago, I still put the comma and my degree THAT I EARNED after my name.
Even to the point of reading Nene’s life story. Nene’s mother wasn’t in her life. Nene won some prize in school. And Nene studied acting and is successful at it. She’s patching pieces from all cast into this mash of revisited surprises we’ll see every show. Kinda’ clever really. She’s got her pics all over the place, appearing on shows and has become the hottest gossip since Sheree. She’s even doing Sheree/Lisa workouts.
You can still look up to people who are “new” to than scene! Smh! Length of years do mot automatically make u “established”…just means u been hustlin for a while…so her comment makes a lot of sense! Nene hit tha ground running…so she would make a good case study for someone to immulate…such as Kenya!

Vay definitely made a good point. I guess the rationale behind it is that whoever is hot at the moment is the one you follow to get some limelight for yourself. "He who holds the gold makes the rules." NeNe is the one holding the gold for now, so I guess Kenya and anyone else looking for some limelight has to play by her rules. Sheree didn’t play by NeNe’s rules and look what happened to her.

I certainly hope she won’t have to. The New Normal is an EXCELLENT show and not because Nene has appearances on it. It’s the only network sitcom I can watch. As good as if not better than Will&Grace. Cast is amazing. Witty,quick and put together as only a perfectionist could. That show will definitely be top rated.

Do you honestly think she would look up to Nene if the only thing Nene had going for her was being on the show? No way. Nene is the flavor of the month. When that’s done and over… so is she.
Who Kenya really need to look up to is Kandi. Kandi is smart and been around for along time. I honestly believes when you see her in the media and even taking part on the RH show, it’s more about networking to add to her empire and not all about "look at how glamorous I am". Girl’s NET worth is $35 million as of 2012. I was stunned to say the least.

Michelle, I’ve given you a lot of side eye before but this is a great post. Very thought provoking. Why is Kenya looking up to a reality star when she herself supposedly made history? Is this what our role models and sources of inspiration have been reduced to? Such a shame. As much as I appreciate Nene’s hustle she is no one to admire. She is caricature – nothing more nothing less.
It does seem as though Nene’s influence has some persuasion on the casting decisions. We note both Sheree and Kim are gone, and Kenya is definitely wanting to be in Nene’s good graces.
The problem is that this formula may not be successful. RHOA is hurting this season in a big way. The dynamics are off. Kenya’s problem is that she has fabricated too much of an identity to try and conform to the requirements of this show. Nothing is really real.
Nene’s problems was Kim and Sheree. Now they are gone and she must carry the show by herself in a way, which will be tricky. Kenya is no main event. Phaedra has lost all relevance. Cynthia is briningng it, but she is more of a supporting character. Kandi is Kandi. Porsha is funny, but won’t be able to lead.
We can wait and see, but I think everyone should prep for a disappointing season.
Right. In all of NeNe’s "firings" she basically just "fired" herself. The "thinks" she has better things to do or bigger fish to fry, but that’s an illusion. The devil will tell you anything to keep you fulfilling his plan then dump you off when he is done with you. Isn’t that what Hollywood does?

To be honest NENE did not enter the show as the mean girl but the coolest one. She was friends with Kim, Sheree and Dwight and had hilarious circumstances with them all. NENE began being seen as the ‘mean’ girl when her so-called friends became jealous of her ‘fan-base’ and they started trying to sabotage her. Kim no longer wanted her to sing on tardy for the party; Sheree left her off her party list and Dwight went around saying he had given Greg a loan. Not to mention that Kandi began gossiping about her to both Kim and Phaedra. It was the hatred from her cast-mates that made NENE question their true feelings and she began telling them all off – only to find out in the end that EVERYTHING she said about ALL of them was correct. Kim was messing with a married man and didn’t have a pot to piss in – she also set Kandi up by not paying her anything for the song. Sheree was fronting – losing houses to foreclosure, did get a six figure settlement, had a daughter she wasn’t claiming and a son on an air mattress. Kandi is a nothing more than a sex fiend and Dwight is busted. NENE on the other hand, who never pretended to be anything or anyone but herself, has 2 supporting roles on highly watched shows, appeared on Donald Trump’s Apprentice, has a shoe line, is highly paid for showing up at publicity gigs, and has a lot of business interests that are getting her paid. So who in their right mind wouldn’t admire her come up.
I meant to say that Sheree DIDN’T get her six figure settlement. And let’s not forget that Phaedra was scandulous against NENE as well…only for her to be hiding her pregnancy due date…just like NENE said. So love or hate her NENE made out the best of the situation presented!

I think that Kenya may be scared of NeNe. She also thinks that NeNe has Hollywood connections, so that may be why she is treating Cynthia the way she does, to drive a wedge between NeNe and Cynthia so that Kenya can take Cynthia’s place on the "talls".
This once again confirms what I have been saying. Kenya is acting, and she thinks that her acting is going to pan out into something big like it did for NeNe. The problem is, I have a very strong feeling that it’s not going to work for Kenya the way it "worked" for NeNe, and there are a long list of reasons why.
