Nene Leakes of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is apparently not on the “A” List in Utah and neither are the “gays”.

Utah clearly doesn’t see it for Leakes and her new NBC sitcom, “The New Normal,” for reportedly the show has been banned from the state’s airwaves!

Wetpaint is reporting that Ryan Murphy’s upcoming sitcom, “The New Normal” which stars the Real “Housewife” of Atlanta, has been pulled by Utah’s NBC affiliate KSL-TV.
The station felt that the show, which is centered around a gay couple and their child’s surrogate mother, is “inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.”
So apparently Utah doesn’t see it for Nene OR the gays… 
GLAAD President Herndon Graddick issued the following statement regrading the situation:
“Same-sex families are a beloved part of American television thanks to shows like Modern Family, Glee, and Grey’s Anatomy.
While audiences, critics and advertisers have all supported LGBT stories, KSL is demonstrating how deeply out of touch it is with the rest of the country.”
A “housewife” banned in Utah?! Now that’s a first…

I have been to Annabella and Green River Utah. These are some super small towns. If you have a dissenting opinion to their norm then you are basically an outcast. They look at you like your skin is green and they will not talk to you. When I was there folks were asking me about the real “Big Apple” (NY) vs what is seen on TV. I answered their questions regarding the LGBT community and informed them I am friends with some, you would have thought I said I sleep with Satan. I was in Provo, Orem and SLC, it was some of the most uncomfortable weeks in my life. It’s like another world being out there. The thinking is very small minded I agree. Thank you. I thought I was reading the article wrong. It is not NeNe’s show. NeNe is one of the stars of the show and NeNe can go to Utah anytime she wants, it’s THE SITCOM that been banned in Utah. Someone clearly got their facts twisted.

Well if they don’t want to air the show then so what? People need to remember or understand that America is not some homogenous nation where everyone thinks alike and agrees on everything.
We are actually a country of individual mini nations. Life in NY is not like life in Arkansas and life in Arkansas is not like life in Oregon etc. I don’t think it reflects badly on their state if they don’t want to see a bunch of gays plus one loud Nene cooning every week.

I agreed with you up until you stated the show wasn’t going to make it because you felt it was a phase. You have to remember that Will & Grace lasted 8 seasons before it ended and that centered around that lifestyle to the T. So I wouldn’t be surprised if this one made a similar run.

Utah (and states like it) have alot of jobs but no one wants to live there because of the people (a contributing factor to today’s unemployment).
As far as the show, I saw the preview episode and it’s cool, Nene really is a good actor but it’s obvious that she’s new to the game because she’s playing a role not unlike herself.
Definitely NOT about Nene. It’s good that it was mentioned though. Utah is a mormon stae. NBC is a mormon owned station there. You’ll see plenty more of their ideals as soon as they own this country. I remember when Katrina displaced Black families were flown out to Utah. They were safe but they were also SHOCKED. The people had never been in actual contact with Black folk before. Matter of fact, they housed them on a MILITARY BASE WITH A CURFEW.
I think it was about 90 Black people unknowingly plunked down in the state. Don’t know how many have escaped to date.
