TV One ended the latest season of their celebrated documentary series Unsung with a look into the life, career and death of the legendary Gerald Levert.
The episode also features Gerald’s daughter Carlysia Levert, who lives in Atlanta and is a talented singer in her own right.

From his beginnings as a youngster watching his father Eddie rise to fame with the O’Jays, to forming the duo Levert with his brother Sean, to his ascension up the R&B ranks as a soloist and with the group LSG and, ultimately, his untimely death in 2006, Gerald’s entire story is chronicled with a level of detail and care that only Unsung can provide.
With real, behind-the-scenes stories from friends, family and Gerald himself, this episode ends the season on yet another highly informative note.
While the episode lightly touched on Gerald Levert’s relationship with songstress Miki Howard, they managed to leave out quite a few of the singer’s main squeezes.
Remember his song “Casanova”…
Gerald Levert was definitely a Casanova! TVOne should have include Kandi Burruss and comedian Mo’Nique in the episode as well, I’m sure they all played a part in his creative process and that woulda made for good tv!
What did you think of Gerald Levert’s ‘Unsung’ Episode?

I saw this. It was good.
I love and miss garald levert so much. He was so sexy to me. I love his voice stage presents. I cryed like he was my man. Deep down i wanted him to be my husband. Lol. Miss him much. Like unsung.
I wouldn’t think of Gerald Levert as "unsung."
I agree, but you have to remember, the series has covered acts just like Gerald who were very talented, and left their mark in the music industry but still weren’t mainstream acts. This is why you probably won’t see an unsung on acts like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Prince, The Temptations and etc. Even though they’ve had their well documented ups and down they are household names in popular culture. Gerald was great as an Urban music act with a very strong following, but not a mainstream act that could fill stadiums.
@tmoorer: "Unsung" features many artists who passed way too young without reaching the pinnacle of their careers. Gerald had decades of good music left in him, may he rest in peace.
He had a lovely voice. Gone too soon.
This episode was great, I was smiling for the most part because I remember growing up to him and Levert and LSG.
It’s so sad that he wanted to get a Grammy or be a pop sensation. He was great in his own right and from the looks of it, he didn’t think that was enough. He shoulda listened to his people when they told him that being who he was and what he’s accomplished was more than enough. We’ve seen the Grammys give awards to artists that don’t even have half of the talent that Gerald had, not even close. And I don’t need to tell you about the mainstream right now, that ratchetness speaks for itself.
RIP Gerald Levert
"We’ve seen the Grammys give awards to artists that don’t even have half of the talent that Gerald had, not even close."
^^This statement, D.A. is GOSPEL TRUTH.
I didn’t like it and agree they left quite a bit out. TV1 appeared to focus more on "The Leverts" vs his solo career. If they were going focus on the "The Leverts" it should have been "The Leverts" Unsung and not Gerald. IMO
Damn…I missed it. But was he really getting around like that? Didn’t Eddie lose he 2 sons?
Gerald used to go with Monique? Come again??
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I HAD NOT SEEN THIS EPISODE.ALTHOUGH I HAD TEARS STREAMING DOWN MY FACE,I’M GLAD I WATCHED.I LOVE YOU ‘G’ YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY TEDDY BEAR!!!!
I can’t watch the video right now, but I wanted to say that Sexy Teddy Bear is missed!! Gerald is one of those people who’s gone too soon….
I will never forget I was in a record store in Downtown Cleveland when I got the awful news then a worker at FYE came by to see if they had stock there, a week later I was in that long line paying my respects and it’s sad that he couldn’t really see how much he meant to so many. He was underrated in every sense of the word. Cd after cd of great music and that Grammy was bittersweet. We miss and love him always.
*TEARS* FOR GERALD & SEAN….
I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER GERALD. I STILL LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC AND YOUR STILL MY FAVORITE SINGER BY FAR. YOU WILL NEVER BE UNSUNG!
I watched the episode and felt like it wasn’t one of their best shows. Although I wasn’t a big Gerald Levert fan, I appreciated his soul stirring voice and immense talent. This Unsung just left me going WTH? I’ve watched ALL of the previous episodes and this one was the worst one for me.
Did not know he went to Africa and got sick. I liked the episode, great work
