Guess what y’all!? Gabrielle Douglas may soon be a part of the great City of Atlanta!!
The 16 year old Olympic stand out is reportedly being heavily recruited by Atlanta’s very own HBCU Spelman College.

Beverly Daniel Tatum, Spelman’s president, flew out to London recently to make sure Gabby knew that one of the most prestigious black universities in the country had it’s eye on her!

According to TMZ, Gabby’s Spelman gift bag contained a congratulatory note, school t-shirt and a CD containing a song produced by the college.
Could Spelman be in the cards for Gabrielle Douglas?
If Twitter is any indication, then all signs point to “yes”!
Gabby recently “retweeted” one of her favorite actresses, Nina Dobrev (of The Vampire Diaries), who was once a former artistic and rhythmic gymnast, herself.
Dobrev, a proud Atlanta transplant, heard about Gabby’s Spelman connection and offered to show her around town should she choose to attend.
After hearing that 16-year-old U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas was a huge fan of their show, the entire cast of The Vampire Diaries made her a video congratulating her on her team and individual all-around golds and wishing her and her teammate, Aly Raisman, good luck in event finals.
If Oprah has anything to do with it, I’m sure Gabby will choose Spelman…

I know that gymnastics is a sport where you can practice anywhere with good facilities and I love my AUC schools (CLark Atlanta alum), but (if this is actually true) if she wants to come to ATL and continue training wouldn’t Tech be a better choice?

Im sure plenty of colleges are trying to recruit her. Spellman is a good school but some girls are too hung up on materialism. Im coming to class not a fashion show, be glad my hung over ass woke up and came because plenty did not. Considering how so many black women "went in" on her hair Tech might just be a better fit for her.
I’m sure gabby didn’t get where she is wondering what the "in crowd" were doing. Her response to the statement about her hair shows that she strives for the best in all her ventures regardless of what people say about her.

Spelman isn’t a good school & it looks like shit
That’s because spelman is a school in the hood, ghetto…the only people that think highly of those ragedy schools are people in the south…period
I hope its a free scholarship offer in that lil gift bag lol. Not as thoughs she will need it but hey it would have been a nice way to get a commitment from her lol
So this girl is offered admission to Spelman College for winning a gold medal in London? That is absurd. What is this girl’s Transcript and SAT/ACT scores? If they are not up to standards then it is a waste of spot of a young woman that actually earned her way in. It’s sad when a College offers admissions to someone so that they can brag about them…I wonder when she attends Spelman will she be automatically accepted by a sorority without going thru a process?

Lol I agree lets hand Gabby 10 million dollars also and call it a day. Education should be based on scholastic merit not sports or popularity but it’s sad in today’s world that is what it is about.

Spellman could do better?? Are the people in atlanta living in the twilight zone?? Have you seen those rundown schools? One on each corner? Do you guys know that most elementary schools don’t look that bad?? Those schools should be a LAST resort in case you can’t go anywhere else…

What "standards" does spellman have besides $$$….the neighborhood looks like compton & the credits don’t transfer…they have no standards…

Gabby needs to come to school where she can continue training!! UGA has one of the best gymnastics programs in the nation with TOP facilities & she will get a quality education. Come be a GymDawg girlllll!!! Plus Athens is only an hour from Atl…but she’ll have more fun in a college town lol. #GabbyatUGA
