The iconic songstress was born August 9, 1963 and died February 11, 2012. Her life was a filled with song and she had her first taste of mainstream success on a duet with Teddy Pendergrass entitled “Hold Me” which appeared on his album, ‘Love Language’ back in 1984.
Houston later shared vocal ability through hits like ‘I Will Always Love You’ and ‘I Have Nothing’ both from the hit movie The Bodyguard and ‘I Love the Lord’ in 1996 from the movie Preacher’s Wife.
And the world will never forget Houston’s flawless performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV at Tampa Stadium on January 27, 1991 (watch).
Due to overwhelming response to her rendition, it was released as a commercial single and video of her performance, and reached the Top 20 on the US Hot 100, making her the only act to turn the national anthem into a pop hit of that magnitude. (source)
Whitney may be gone but her voice lives on and she will never be forgotten.

OOOOOHHH I miss you so much Whitney and I didn’t even know you! Been a fan since I was 5 years old and watched The Bodygaurd. Rest in Peace…….
I am going to play the devils advocate here, but if she was alive..would you all be showing her this much attention? I mean what is the point of showing all the love, admiration, and respect when the person is not here anymore. I mean, everyone talked wrecklessly about Michael Jackson until he died and every talked the same about Whitney until she died. All that to say, love the people while their still here, who knows..if this much love was shown to either of these stars beforehand..they might not have sunken into depression or relied on drugs. IJS

@GloverLove: You better preach!
I will always love you Whitney. I thought you were the prettiest and forever the most talented singer ever! I used to love Diana that way, even though Diana didn’t have your voice. You were the ONLY one to bring that unique showmanship that Diana had and still has. But only YOU had the voice. I will stand in line to see your last days on this earth. Only YOU will sparkle for me.
Taking the kids to see it. I grew up watching her grow from that Merv Griffith appearance and through all the highs and lows. Still hard to believe. Happy Birthday
