According to an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nene just signed with a global licensing brand to transition into the fashion world.
On Tuesday, the 44-year-old mother of two announced that she has signed with global brand licensing agency Beanstalk to make her move into fashion.
Beanstalk says in an announcement tied to Licensing Expo 2012, now going on in Las Vegas, that it intends to “leverage NeNe’s position in pop culture to offer consumers fashion-forward, affordable apparel and accessories, designed to empower women to walk into a room and ‘own it’ — like NeNe herself.”
No deal is signed yet, but Beanstalk will look to license a range of consumer products built around fashions that will appeal to the women who have watched her evolve on the show.
“While the fame of reality television characters is often short-lived and fleeting,” said Michael Stone, Beanstalk’s president and CEO, “NeNe Leakes has displayed versatility that has enabled her to transition from being a Real Housewives personality to a featured television star on Glee. NeNe’s multifaceted personality and aspirational style will translate well into products that will emotionally connect with her fans.”

Wow…I think it’s great. I am tall and size 14-16 so affordable fashions for that body type would be welcomed. I love her in long and flowing. On one old episode wehre she was going to meet a man rumored to be her father she looked so lovely in the long flowing dress she had on. I love the way she carries herself and her frame. Tall as she is she is not afraid to wear really high heels. I am 5’9" and really self-conscious so could never do it. She makes no apologies for anything and "owns it." Good for her. I think it looks that way but I don’t think she’s stealing anything from Sheree. I’ve read that NeNe was an actress first and the fashion thing was presented to her.
Looks great on her and I guess lots of trannies will go for it, but, I don’t see this as a money maker for real sized women, but, do your thang Nene, get those coins while you are still famous!
Nene is definitely having her moment, but I caution giving her unending praise.
Her claim to fame is caricature – a loud, boisterous bullying black woman. We’ve seen it before and frankly it is tired; contrary to what many believe, she does everything but "keep it real." Regrettably, a lot of people like this image entertaining, which is why doors have been opened for her (film, fashion etc).
As far as a clothing line goes, she has no clue about fashion, style or an keen eye. What improvement she has made was spoon-fed to her. These pseudo celebrity fashion lines are all gimmick and past their heyday anyway.
